From Saturday, February 23 - Sunday, February 24, 2019, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the South Florida Open at The Woodlands Country Club in Tamarac, FL. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole, two-day format and the field was made up of six divisions that included the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18, Will Smith Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Boys 11-13, Bryson DeChambeau Boys 10 and Under, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Girls 13 and Under Division. Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

South Florida Open

Leading off for the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division was Justin Ortiguera of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL who shot a very impressive par for round one and two of the tournament, finishing with a score of 144. Behind him was TJ Griessel of Redmond, WA who had a very solid outing shooting a 75 and 76 respectively. Lastly, Cameron Meek of West Palm Beach, FL shot one stroke behind the second place finisher to end his tournament shooting a 152.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

South Florida Open

In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, we had Jack Barned of Ponte Vedra, FL capturing the win with rounds of 73 and 74. In second place was Poonyapat Nantsupawat of Boca, FL who finished his two-day tournament with a score of 155. Not far behind was Diego Santolaya from Santiago, Chile who shot a 159.

Ernie Els 11-13

South Florida Open

The Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division had an incredible showing from Lev Grinberg of Kiev, Ukraine. Lev finished his tournament with a +4 after shooting for par on the first round of play. In second place was Ethan Keen of West Palm Beach, FL who had a solid two days of play and finished with a 165. Just behind him was Dylan Marrone who made great improvements from Saturday to Sunday to knock nine strokes off of his game, leaving him with a 167.

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

South Florida Open

In the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, we had such a close race between the top three junior golfers. There was a tie for first place between Bela Mead of Sunny Isles Beach, FL and Bernardita Vallalba of Córdoba, Argentina. Both shot a +9, but after a playoff was played, Bela came out on top. In third place was Karly Falanga of Tequesta, FL who shot just one stroke off the two girls that were ahead of her.

Justin Rose Girls U13

South Florida Open

The Justin Rose Girls U13 Division had a strong showing this past weekend, and Jingyan Pan of Delray Beach, FL came out on top of the podium. In second place was Sara Vitasek of Naples, FL who improved her game from Saturday to Sunday by 4 strokes. There was a two-way tie for third place, and it was between Annika Kohoutkova of Naples, FL and Staci Pla of West Palm Beach, FL.

Boys 10 Under

The Bryson DeChambeau Boys U10 Division was a battle between two very strong competitors. Xin Wang of Bradenton, FL came out on top with a two-day total of 159 strokes. Just two strokes off of him was Cristian Scradeanu of Sinaia, Romania who shot an 81 and 80 respectively.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
