From Saturday July 6th through Sunday July 7th,the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Pittsburgh Mid-Summer Jr. Open. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of four divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, and the Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18.
Tiger Woods Boys 16-18
Tyler Thomas of Corning, NY took the first-round lead after scoring a 73 on Saturday. Thomas remained at the top of the leaderboard all weekend, with a final round of 70 and winning by a margin of 2 strokes. Jeffrey Mankins of Greensburg, PA finished in second place with rounds of 73 and 72over the weekend for runner up honors. And rounding up our top-three were James Fuhrer of Pittsburgh, PA and Alex Turowski of Harrison City, PA with weekend totals of 149 strokes.
Will Smith Boys 14-15
Felix Fernandez of Saltsburg, PA was able to seal his victory with rounds of 76 and 74 over the weekend, making 2birdies to finish at a two-day total of 150 strokes. Miguel Fernandez of Saltsburg, PA claimed runner-up honors with a total of 164 shots and consistent weekend rounds. Rounding up the top three was Michael Ostrower of Saltsburg, PA with a total of 165 strokes for the tournament.
Ernie Els 11-13
Nicholas Turowski of Harrison City, PA claimed first-place honors after winning the playoff against his closest competitor. Turowski made two birdies on Sunday to finish with a weekend total of 153. Following him was Daniel Shelley of Saltsburg, PA who forced a playoff the last day by shooting a closing round of 77. Rounding up our top-three was Ignacio Gilbert of Saltsburg, PA with a weekend total of 157 strokes and claimed solo third-place honors.
Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18
Lauren Barber of Jeannette, PA claimed first-place honors with a total of 165 shots. Barber was able to seal her victory with rounds of 86 and 79 to win by a two-shot margin. Adena Rugola of Uniontown, PA shot a total of 167 shots to claim solo runner-up honors. Rounding up the top three was Sierra Richard of Beaver Falls, PA with a week total of 174 shots to claim third-place honors.
