On Wednesday, June 27 – Thursday, June 28, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Ohio Summer Junior Open in Nashport, Ohio. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament that took place on The Virtues Golf Club consisted of players from five of our divisions, including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.
Fraz Frazier of Wooster, Ohio took home the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division after finishing +6. He led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (75) and the lowest Par 3 average (3). Nolan Kimberly of Zanesville, Ohio finished second as he made 155 strokes through the thirty-six holes for a +11 finish. Both Frazier and Kimberly tied for the most birdies as they each made 4. Third place finisher was Bryce Moore of Vienna, West Virginia who completed two-day tournament at +18.
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, it was Zehnder Gibson of Sugarcreek, Ohio who captured the victory as he finished +21. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (82.5) and the lowest Par 3 average (3.5). Westerville, Ohio’s Jonathan Green scored 173 strokes and made the most birdies (5) to finish at +29 at the end of the two days. Aditya Reddy of Dublin, Ohio placed third as he finished +36.
It was a successful two-day tournament for Kelly Zhu of Beijing, New York who placed first in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division. Through thirty-six holes, Zhu shot 159 strokes for a +15 finish. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (79.5), the lowest Par 3 average (3.5), and the most birdies (2). This was Kelly’s first tournament on tour this year, and this first-place victory helped him start the season on a high note.
Pan Yiting of Shanghai took home the title in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division after finishing +22. She led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (83) and the lowest Par 3 average (3.5). Second-place finisher, Alyssa Newsom of Granville, Ohio, completed the thirty-six holes with a total of 179 strokes for a +35 finish. Both Yiting and Newsom tied for the most birdies in their field as they both made 1. Jenna Lynn of Dublin, Ohio shot 191 strokes to place third at +47.
In the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division, it was Bella Anderson of Columbus, Ohio who walked off the course with the first-place trophy. Through the two days and thirty-six holes, Anderson shot 201 strokes to finish at +57. Her victory results from her lowest scoring average in the playing field (100.5) and the lowest Par 3 average (3.8).
