Northern California Junior Open #2

On Saturday, July 7 – Sunday, July 8, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Northern California Junior Open #2 in San Leandro, California. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament that took place on the Monarch Bay Golf Club – Tony Lema consisted of players from five of our divisions, including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Northern California Junior Open #2

Connor Wierman of Oro Valley, Arizona placed first in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division after completing the thirty-six holes at +6. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (74), the most birdies (7), the longest birdie or better streak (2), and the lowest Par 3 average (3.2). Finn O’Kelly of Woodside placed second after making 156 strokes for a +14 finish. Third-place finisher was Connor Ohlrich of Findlay who shot 161 strokes to finish at +19. 

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Northern California Junior Open #2

In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, it was Richard Zhang of Milpitas, California who captured the victory after finishing the two-day tournament at +16. He led his player field with the lowest scoring average (79), the lowest Par 3 average (3.5), and the most birdies (2). Second-place finisher was Bryan Zhang of Los Altos who shot 184 strokes for a +42 finish through the thirty-six holes. 

Ernie Els 11-13

Northern California Junior Open #2

Jonathan Chen of Carmel, California was the champion this weekend in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division after finishing at +18. Aaron Cheng of Mountain View, California placed second as he made 172 strokes for a +30 finish. Third-place finisher was Arjun Aujla of Greenbrae, California who made 185 strokes to finish at +43 through the thirty-six holes. 

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

In the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, it was Grace Bettis of Pacifica, California that walked away with the first-place trophy as she finished +5. She led her playing field with the most birdies (6), the longest birdie or better streak (2), and the lowest scoring average (73.5). Second-place finisher, Helen Ye of Redwood City, California shot 153 strokes for a +11 finish. Dymphna Ueda of Concord, California finished third with 156 strokes to end the tournament at+14. 

Justin Rose Girls U13

Varsha Ramachandran of Fremont, California captured the title this weekend in the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division as she finished +8. She led her playing field with the most birdies (5), the lowest Par 3 average (3), and the lowest scoring average (75). Harper Clementz of San Francisco, California placed second with 162 strokes for a +20 finish. Third-place finisher, Lexi Booras of Rocklin finished at +21 through the thirty-six holes.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
