On September 23rd and 24th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour ran an event in Myrtle Beach, SC. The weather conditions for both days remained in the mid 80’s with a refreshing breeze during round two. Golfers traveled from all across the globe to compete at the Myrtle Beach National – West Course. We would like to thank all of the staff that made this tournament highly successful.
the Boys 16-18 division, Austin Mosher of Mt. Pleasant, SC, captured the first
place trophy with rounds of 69-75 for a total of 144. Mosher shot six birdies in the first round to
end his round under par. Mosher was met
with his opponent, Alan Smith of Winchendon, MA, for a two-hole playoff. Mosher birdied the second hole to take the
Smith shot rounds of 70-74 for a total of 144. Smith shot two under par to lead himself into the second round. Smith outshot Mosher in the second round by one for a chance to claim the champion trophy. Smith ended the playoff round on the second hole. To round out the top three finishers was Carlos Garre of Myrtle Beach, SC. He finished with rounds of 72-74 for a total of 146.
In the Boys 14-15 division, Fabricio Gaxiola of Cordoba, MX, placed first with rounds of 68-69 for a total of 137. Gaxiola took an early lead after he shot an impressive 68 with three birdies and one eagle in the first round. Gaxiola locked in the victory after his second round performance with three birdies and 15 parred holes.
Keegan Vaugh of Myrtle Beach, SC, shot rounds of 71-75 for a total of 146. He was just 3 strokes behind Gaxiola to end the first round. The third place winner was Angel Guerra of North Myrtle Beach, SC. Guerra finished with rounds of 78-71 for a total 149.
In the Boys 11-13 division, Trent Cade of Ocean Isle, NC, took the first place trophy with rounds of 74-77 for a total of 151. Cade finished his rounds with a total of four birdies.
The second place trophy was presented to Tristen McKay of Florence, SC. He shot rounds of 78-80 for a total of 158. The third place winner was Jose Fernandez Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC. Fernandez had rounds of 92-93 for a total of 185.
In the Girls 14-18 division, Susana Olivares was the young lady to take home the champion silverware; with rounds of 78-72 for a total of 150. Susana showed an impressive display with five birdies in Round 2. She was in very competitive groups for both rounds and managed to pull off a great couple of rounds to come out on top.
Taking home second place in the division was a young German player, Katharina Hesse. Hesse finished only four strokes behind the champion Olivares in what was a heated display of young talent. Katharina finished with rounds of 76-78 for a total of 154. Yeon Joo Kim of Seoul, South Korean finished the event with a total of 155 with rounds of 81-74 to claim the third place trophy; finishing just one stroke behind the second placeholder. The Girls 14-18 division was one of the most competitive divisions this weekend as only five strokes separated first and third place.
Boys 10 Under
In the Boys U-10 division, Sam Terry of Thomasville, SC, took home the championship trophy. He shot rounds of 72-77 for a total of 149. In the first round he shot an impressive even par. Despite being the only golfer in his division, Terry competed as if he was up against other high level golfers.
