From Saturday, February 23 - Sunday, February 24, 2019, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Mission Inn Junior Open at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole, two-day format and the field was made up of five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18, Will Smith Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Boys 11-13, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Girls 13 and Under Division. The Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division is known for the competitiveness, and this tournament proved just that. In first place was Junfan Wang of Shandong, China who shot an 80 on Saturday and came back on Sunday shooting an insane 69 to claim the top spot in the division. Just one stroke off of him was Nolan Pierce of Whitby, Canada who shot a 75 on each day of the tournament which is quite impressive. Rounding out the division was Dylan Henderson of Waterloo, Canada who turned things around on Sunday by taking six strokes off of his Saturday total.
The Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division was a tight-knit race, with only four strokes between the top three competitors. In first place was Chih Yu Lin of New Taipei, Taiwan who shot a solid 159 over the span of the two-day tournament. There was a tie for second place between Brett Allen of West Palm Beach, FL and Gabriel Zhang of Lake Mary, FL. Both golfers shot a 163 over the course of the two-day tournament.
The Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division was dominated by one young junior golfer, Siddhartha Somani. Siddhartha of India finished each day of the tournament shooting 74 strokes for a very impressive two-day run of +4.
The Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division had some of the best golf played that we have ever seen in that division. There was a tie for first place between Tina Jiang of Richmond, Canada and Lisa Marie Rudometkin of Wesley Chapel, FL. Both girls played incredible rounds of golf, finishing with -2 strokes, but Tina came out on top after a playoff round determined a winner. There was also a three-way tie for third place, as Anouk Casty of Bassersdorf, Switzerland, Victoria Zheng of Markham, Canada, and Hailey Katona of Tilbury, Canada all finished the tournament with 147 total strokes.
The Justin Rose Girls U13 Division was made up of a playing field from across the world. Coming out on top was Amelie Phung of Forest Hills, NY who shot a total of 156 strokes. One stroke off the leader was Sophia Li of New York, NY who shot a 79 and 78 respectively. Rounding out the division was Menglu Zhu of Beijing, China who shot a solid 161 over the two-day tournament.
