From Sunday July 28th through Monday July 29th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Minnesota Summer Junior Open. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Bryson DeChambeau boys 10 and Under, and Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18.
Jay Fjelstul of Decorah, IA was able to take home first place honors after rounds of 66 and 73. Fjelstul had a total of 139 strokes for the week with 10 birdies, to win by a 9 shot margin over his closest competitor. Nash Stenberg of Sioux Falls, SD had a first round 73 on Sundau to finish at a total of 148 strokes and claim solo runner-up honors. Rounding up the top-three were Blake Weinbach of Columbia, SC and Jay Frolick of Minneapolis, MN with weekend totals of 149 strokes to claim tie third-place honors.
Jake Olson of Watertown, SD was able to take the win after a weekend total of 149 strokes. Olson won the playoff against Bennett Geraets of Sioux Falls, SD. Both players had consistent rounds over the weekend to tie, where Olson was able to win the division. Rounding up the top three was William Sanford of Sioux Falls, SD with a weekend total of 150 strokes for third place honors.
Jonas Moe of Richville, MN was able to seal his victory with rounds of 79 and 80 with a total of 159 strokes. Moe made a birdie the first day to win by an impressive margin over his closest competitor. Brandon Yabandith of St. Michael, MN shot a total of 189 strokes with consistent weekend rounds to claim solo runner-up honors for the division.
Lauren Tims of Sioux Falls, SD was able to seal the win with rounds of 85 and 79 for the weekend. Tims won on a playoff against her closest competitor, Lauren Sutcliffe of Sioux Falls, SD. Both players had weekend totals of 164 strokes tie, however Tims was able to take home the win. Rounding up the top three was London Wille of Van Meter, IA with a weekend total of 166 shots to claim third-place for the division.
Boys 10 Under
Ryder Haskins of Minnetrista, MN was our lone competitor for the division, with rounds of 85 and 89 he was able to seal victory. Haskins stayed consistent both days, and finished with a total of 174 shots to win.
