On Sunday, June 10 – Tuesday, June 12, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Mid Season Invitational at Sea Island in Sea Island, Georgia. The three-day, 54- hole tournament that happened at the Sea Island-Plantation consisted of players from all our divisions, including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.
Matthew Soucinek of Lake City, Florida captured the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division finishing -1 with 215 strokes. He made 8 birdies and his playing field with the lowest scoring average of 71.7. Second-place finisher was Jaden Weisman of Malvern, Pennsylvania who shot 223 for a +7 finish. There was a three-way tie for third place as Preston Smith (Charleston, IL), JD Del Priore (Charlotte, NC), and Worth Pickens (Saint Simons Island, GA) all shot 227 for a +11 total over the three-day tournament.
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Charles Warren of Huntsville, Alabama placed first with a three-day total of 225 (+9). He made 2 birdies and had the lowest scoring average, of 75, in his field. Payne Elkins of Valdosta, Georgia finished second at +10 after making 12 birdies, the most in his playing field. Third-place finisher was Ryan Macri, from Wake Forest, North Carolina, who finished +14 on the weekend.
Reed Lotter of Savannah, Georgia and Chapman Barnett of Duluth, Georgia, were Co-Champions in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division after both finishing at +1 through 45-holes, due to weather on Tuesday. Lotter and Barnett had the top two lowest scoring averages in their playing field with 71 and 72, respectively. Third-place winner was Luke Powell of Laguna Niguel, California who finished +4 with 184 strokes.
Sarah Edwards of Jay, Florida was victorious in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division after finishing +8. Her 4 birdies and low scoring average of 74.5 helped her place first in the tournament. Lauren Davenport of Delray Beach, Florida, placed second after making 5 birdies to help her finish at +10. Christian Williams (Tallapoosa, GA) and Julia McLaughlin (Princeton, NJ) tied for third-place after both finishing at +15. Williams made 3 birdies and McLaughlin made 4.
In the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division, McKenzie Mages of Marietta, Georgia took home the first-place trophy after finishing +8 with 188 strokes. She made 5 birdies and had the lowest scoring average in her playing field at 76. Second-place finisher, Amanda Phillips of New York, New York, shot +9 with 189 total strokes and 2 birdies. Savannah, Georgia’s Mary Miller finished third at +14 with 3 birdies.
Boys 10 Under
In the Boys U10 Division, Carson Higginbotham of Clarksburg, West Virginia, took home the first-place title after finishing +12 over the course of the three-days. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (76) and the most birdies (7). Powell, Ohio’s Jackson Harris finished second after making 230 strokes for a +14 finish. Third-place finisher was Mason Howell of Tallahassee, Florida who shot +16.
