From Saturday, June 1st through Sunday June 2nd, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Junior Open at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Maryland. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Division Girls 13 and Under.
Tiger Woods Boys 16-18
David Luo of Centerville, VA took charge of the leaderboard after scoring a final round of 72 and winning the event by five strokes. Luo shot a 36 even-par on the back nine the last day in order to finish +4 for the weekend and take the victory over Evan Barbin of Rising Sun, MD. Barbin finished in second place after shooting a two-round total of 151 with a phenomenal 73 on the first round. And rounding up the top-three was Tyler Zimmer of Bryn Mawr, PA with a two-day total of 152.
Will Smith Boys 14-15
Carson Poulos of Virginia Beach, VA shot a two-day total of 163 to take an early lead on Saturday and remain in contention through the weekend, winning with a nine-stroke margin over his closest competitor. Closing out the week with a 78 on Sunday, Poulos was able to take home the hardware. Runner-up Jack Yearley of Wayne, PS shot a two-day total of 172 with consistent rounds both days to take solo second-place honors. Rounding up the top-three for the division was Lucas Willard from Leesburg, VA with a total of 175 for the week.
Ernie Els 11-13
Ajeet Bagga of Blue Bell, PA led the Ernie Els Boys Division with a 159 three-round total to take an early lead with a first-round 81 and stay on top of the leaderboard all weekend. Bagga finished his two-day total with an outstanding 78 on Sunday and a birdie on the last hole to close out his weekend. Following his lead, Colby Baran of Wading River, NY was consistent all weekend to finish with a 170 two-day total and take runner-up honors.
Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18
Charlotte Scully of Chadds Ford, PA shot a stellar one under 71 on Sunday to take home first-place honors with an impressive eleven-shot margin over her closest competitor. Sculley finished her weekend with birdies on holes 5, 14 and 18 with an eagle on 16 as well to seal her victory. Following her lead were Sawyer Brockstedt of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Sarah Scarpill from Warrington, PA with two-day totals of 161 to tie for runner-up honors.
Justin Rose Girls U13
Samantha Loninger of Crosswicks, NJ shot a two-day total 192 to seal the victory with an eighteen-shot margin over her closest competitor. Samantha finished her weekend with a birdie on the last hole to secure her victory. Following her was Amelia Loninger from Crosswicks, NJ with a two-day total of 210 shots to claim solo runner-up honors for the Justin Rose Girls Division.
