Major Championship at the Architects

On Wednesday, June 27 – Thursday, June 28, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Major Championship at the Architects in Lopatcong, New Jersey. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament that took place on The Architects Golf Club consisted of players from all six of our divisions, including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Major Championship at the Architects

Charles Chung of Hong Kong, China was victorious in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division as he shot 145 strokes for a +3 finish. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (72.5) and the most birdies (7). Karsen Rush of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania placed second after finishing the thirty-six holes at +6 with 148 strokes. Third-place finisher was Jaden Weisman of Malvern, Pennsylvania who had a two-day total of 151 strokes for a +9 finish. Chung and Weisman tied for the longest birdie or better streak, 2, in their field.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Major Championship at the Architects

Ka Jun Yu of Hong Kong, China captured the title in the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division after completing the tournament with 149 strokes (+7). He led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (74.5), the lowest Par 3 average (3) and the most birdies (5). Singapore’s Jayaditya Saluja placed second with a thirty-six-hole total of 157 strokes for a +15 finish. Third-place finisher was Charlie Duffy of Trumbull, Connecticut who finished at +16.

Ernie Els 11-13

Major Championship at the Architects

In the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, it was Gavin Girard of East Setauket, New York who was the champion through the thirty-six holes as he finished at +7. Aside from playing his best in the second round, Girard led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (74.5) and the lowest Par 3 average (3). Second-place finisher was Elias Kennon of Old Greenwich, Connecticut who shot 152 strokes for a +10 finish. Girard and Kennon tied for the most birdies as they both made 6. Lance Hollingshead of Basking Ridge, New Jersey placed third after finishing +11 at the end of the two-day tournament.

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

Major Championship at the Architects

Ananya Barthakur of New Delhi, New Jersey captured the first-place trophy in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division as she finished the tournament at +4. She made three birdies and led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (73). Mount Laurel’s Angelina Tolentino placed second as she shot 150 strokes for a +8 finish. As for third place, there was a tie between Tiffany Wu (Hong Kong) and Olivia Patrow (East Stroudsburg, PA) as they both completed the thirty-six holes at +11.

Justin Rose Girls U13

Major Championship at the Architects

In the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division, Gianna Clemente of Warren, Ohio secured the victory as she finished at +2. She led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (72), the lowest Par 3 average (2.8), the most birdies (6), and the longest birdie or better streak (3). Amanda Phillips of New York, New York placed second as she made 150 strokes for a +8 finish. Third-place finisher was Brooke Operparleiter of Laurel Springs, New Jersey who shot +17 with 159 strokes.

Boys 10 Under

Major Championship at the Architects

As for the Boys U10 Division, it was Mihir Roperia’s phenomenal second-round performance (-2) that helped him secure the victory as he finished the thirty-six holes at +3. Roperia, of Cranbury, New Jersey, led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (72.5), the lowest Par 3 average (3.1), the most birdies (7), and the longest birdie or better streak (2). Second-place finisher, Braden Lutz of Chathem, New Jersey finished the two-days with a total of 186 strokes for a +44 finish.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
