Major Championship at Persimmon Ridge

On Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Major Championship at Persimmon Ridge in Louisville, Kentucky. The two-day, 36-hole tournament that took place had a player field consisting of all six divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Major Championship at Persimmon Ridge

It was a weekend full of ties in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division. George Schmid of Prospect, Kentucky and Charlie Morgan of Louisville, Kentucky tied for first after shooting a total of 159 (+15) on the weekend. Both tied for the lowest scoring average (79.5) in the playing field and Schmid made 3 birdies. Will Herman of Prospect, Kentucky and Will Isaacs of Mount Vernon, Kentucky tied for third, shooting a total of 162 (+18). Both the Will’s had a scoring average of 81 and Herman made 2 birdies.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Major Championship at Persimmon Ridge

As for the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Evan Beery of LaGrange, Kentucky bested Derek Limberg of Prospect, Kentucky after a playoff on Sunday. Before the playoff, both players shared a total of 161 strokes (+17) on the weekend. Both Beery and Limberg led the playing field with the lowest scoring average of 80.5 and Limberg made 4 birdies. Louisville native, Andreas Olsen finished third with a weekend total of 168 (+24). Olsen also made 4 birdies. 

Ernie Els 11-13

Major Championship at Persimmon Ridge

Michael Long of Shelbyville, Kentucky took home the victory in the Ernis Els Boys 11-13 Division after a total of 147 strokes (+3). He had the lowest scoring average in the playing field (73.5) and longest birdie or better streak of 3. Landen Howard of Richmond, Kentucky and Happy Gilmore of Bloomfield, Indiana both shot 163 (+19) on the weekend and finished in a tie for second. Howard led the playing field in birdies with 5. 

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

Major Championship at Persimmon Ridge

Ivy Foran of Bristol, Tennessee took home the title in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division after a total stroke count of 163 (+19). She led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (81.5) and tied three other players for the most birdies (2). Second-place finisher, Grace Walker of Louisville, Kentucky, was just one stroke away from victory after shooting 164 (+20). Emily Warner, also of Louisville, finished third with a total of 170 (+26). 

Justin Rose Girls U13

Major Championship at Persimmon Ridge

The Justin Rose Girls U13 Division was won by Mia Hammond of Crooksville, Ohio who shot a total of 156 (+13). She led the player field with the lowest scoring average of 78.5. Staci Pla of West Palm Beach, Florida finished second with a total of 166 (+22) and tied Hammond for the most birdies (4). Third-place finisher was Abigail Sutherland from Glenview, Kentucky after shooting 177 (+33) on the weekend. 

Boys 10 Under

Major Championship at Persimmon Ridge

The Boys U10 Division was won by Clarksburg, West Virginia’s Carson Higginbotham who shot a total of 158 (+14). He led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (79), the most birdies (5) and the longest birdie or better streak (2). Second-place finisher, Jacob Holzer of Louisville, Kentucky made a birdie and shot a total of 179 for a +35 finish. Elijah Lemmon of McCordsville, Indiana finished third with a total of 183 (+39).

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
