Major Championship at Montgomery CC

On Saturday, July 28 – Sunday, July, 29, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Major Championship at Montgomery CC in Montgomery, Alabama. The two-day, thirty-six-hole course held at The Montgomery Country Club consisted of players from all six of our divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Bryson DeChambeau Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Major Championship at Montgomery CC

Jack Bies of Jasper, Indiana captured the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division after completing the thirty-six holes at +3. He made 5 birdies and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average of 71.5. Montgomery native, Grant Smith, placed second as he finished just one shot behind the first-place finisher at +4. Mario Perezcassar III of Carrollton, Georgia placed third after making 146 strokes for a +6 finish.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Major Championship at Montgomery CC

It was Nicklaus Cook of Enterprise, Alabama who won the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division as he finished at +24 to claim first-place. He led his playing field with the most birdies (5), the lowest Par-3 average (3.1), and the lowest scoring average (82). This is Nicklaus’s first victory on tour this year, following his other three Top-5 finishes earlier this season.

Ernie Els 11-13

Major Championship at Montgomery CC

In the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Will Stelt of Auburn, Alabama walked away the champion after totaling +10 through the thirty-six holes. He led his playing field with the most birdies (5), the lowest Par-3 average (3), and the lowest scoring average (75). Second-place finisher was Montgomery’s own Quincy Ahlias Leonard who made 161 strokes for a +21 finish.

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

Major Championship at Montgomery CC

Magnolia’s Halle Whitney totaled +2 in the tournament to win the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division. She led her playing field with the most birdies (7), the longest birdie or better streak (2), the lowest Par-3 average (2.8), and the lowest scoring average (71). Second-place finisher was Payton Elkins of Vladosta, Georgia whose 151 strokes resulted in a +11 total on the weekend. Madeleine Krueger of Midland, Georgia placed third at +31 following her 171 strokes through the thirty-six holes.

Justin Rose Girls U13

Major Championship at Montgomery CC

The Justin Rose Girls U13 tournament champion was Elle Webber of Huntsville, Alabama who completed the thirty-six holes at +36. She led her playing field with the lowest Par-3 average (3.9) and the lowest scoring average (88.5). Isabella Warwick, also of Huntsville, fought hard through round 2 but came up one stroke behind the first-place finisher at +37 to place second.

Boys 10 Under

Major Championship at Montgomery CC

Leo Huddleston of Maryville, Tennessee secured the first-place title in the Bryson DeChambeau Boys U10 Division as he totaled +36 at the end of the two-day tournament. He led his playing field with the lowest Par-3 average (4.1) and the lowest scoring average (88). This is Leo’s fourth 1st place victory on tour and sixth Top-3 finish this season.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
