MUNDELEIN - The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Major Championship at the Countryside Golf Club from May 20-21. Boys and girls traveled from around the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
Boys 16-18

In the boys 16-18 division, Reis Claybrooke from Mahomet, IL won first place. With two birdies on the weekend, he was able to bring in scores of 76 for round 1 and 78 for round 2. Claybrooke finished with a total of 154 strokes. He is currently in the top 20 for HJGT point rankings. With a total of 155 strokes, Liam Spillane from Oak Park, IL placed as our runner up honors. With six birdies on the weekend, he brought in a score of 82 for round 1 and 73 for round 2. Finishing up top three honors is JJ Grimm from Coralville, IA with his best score in an HJGT tournament of 157 strokes.
Boys 14-15

Taking the first place win in the boys 14-15 division was Tyson Daube from Lincolnshire, IL. Daube did a great job this weekend, with three birdies and scores of 87 and 95. He ended with a combined 182 strokes. Tyson won the Pine Meadow Junior Open back in April and will have the chance to win a third time in a row at the Buffalo Grove Junior Open in June. Leo Salerno from Wheaton, IL is an up-and-coming player on the HJGT tour. With his total score of 193 strokes he placed as runner up for the weekend. Leo is currently in the top 50 in the HJGT point rankings. Placing as top three honors was Stribling Koster from Winnetka, IL with a score of 233 for the weekend. We applaud Stribling for his efforts in his first HJGT tournament.
Boys 11-13

In the boys 11-13 division, Fitzpatrick Knight from Lake Forest, IL took home his second win in a row. This weekend he made three birdies and scored a 92 for round 1 and 81 for round 2. Knight finished with a total of 173 strokes. His next tournament will be in July at the Cantigny Summer Junior Open. Mitchell Shroyer from Middleton, WI has played in several HJGT tournaments and placed top 3 in most of them, this weekend was no different. Placing as our runner up honors, Shroyer brought in scores of 92 and 85 for a weekend total of 177 strokes.
Girls 14-18

In the girls 14-18 division, Anna Lee from Vernon Hills, IL played in her second tournament of the year and did an excellent job. With three birdies on the weekend, she brought in scores of 79 and 80. Lee was able to secure a first place win with her total of 159 strokes. Taking home runner up honors was Gigi Zera from Glenview, IL with scores of 79 and 88 she finished off the weekend with a combined 167. To finish off a great weekend, Emma Cunningham from Green Bay, WI placed in the top three honors with a score of 168 strokes.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 8-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. The tour’s vision is to provide superb hospitality and make every event a memorable one. With play open to both males and females, nearly every junior golfer is eligible to participate on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Currently the HJGT is the largest multi-day junior golf tour in the United States hosting more 2-day nationally ranked events than any other tour. The HJGT has been able to achieve this goal by running the most professional events and providing an exceptional value to all of our players and families over the last 14 years.
Based out of Orlando, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the country. In 2021, the HJGT will conduct events in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Canada. Juniors will compete in 1 of 6 divisions which are: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys under 10, Girls 14-18, and Girls Under 13. Click here to view approximate yardages for each division.
