On Saturday, August 11 – Sunday, August 12, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Major Championship at Bristow Manor. The two-day, thirty-six-hole event held at the Bristow Manor Golf Club consisted of players from all six of our divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Bryson DeChambeau Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.
Karsen Rush of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania captured the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division after totaling -3. He led his playing field with the most birdies (8) and the lowest scoring average (70.5). Second-place finisher was Jacob Zeng of Downingtown, Pennsylvania who completed the thirty-six holes with a total of +3. Tanner Koons of Centreville, Virginia made 151 strokes for a +7 finish to secure the third-place spot.
The Will Smith Boys 14-15 tournament champion was Suneil Peruvemba of Mclean, Virginia who completed the two days with a total of +1. He made 3 birdies and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average of 72.5. Mehrbaan Singh of Ashburn, Virginia placed second after he totaled +2 through the thirty-six holes. Third-place finisher Zachary Maloy of Potomac, Maryland made 150 strokes to total +6.
In the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, it was Alexander Francisco who walked away the champion with his +44 total. The Alexandria, Virginia native led his playing field with the lowest Par-3 average (3.8) and the lowest scoring average (94). This was Alexander's first ever tournament with the HJGT and he's off to a great start.
Chevy Chase, Maryland's Rebecca Schiffman was victorious in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division after completing the thirty-six holes at +12. She led her playing field with the most birdies (5) and the lowest scoring average (78). Kayleigh Zeman of Silver Spring, Maryland placed second, following her two consecutive rounds of 80 to total +16. Third-place finisher, Victoria Matthews of Great Falls, Virginia made 162 strokes to result in a +18 finish.
It was Amanda Phillips of New York, New York who claimed the first-place trophy in the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division after her -1 finish through the two days. She led her playing field with the most birdies (9), the lowest Par-3 average (3.1), and the lowest scoring average (72.5). Second-place finisher, Sonja Meyer of Oak Hill, Virginia made 211 strokes through the thirty-six holes to total +65.
Boys 10 Under
Carson Higginbotham of Clarksburg, West Virginia dominated the Bryson DeChambeau Boys U10 Division this weekend with his +7 total. He led his playing field with the most birdies (3), the lowest Par-3 average (3.4), and the lowest scoring average (76.5). Second-place finisher, Ayush Bhansali of Ashburn, VA totaled 186 strokes to finish at +40 at the end of the two days.
