Major Championship at Bridlewood

On Saturday May 19 – Sunday May 20, 2018 The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Major Championship at Bridlewood. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole, two-day format and the field was made from six divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18 and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Major Championship at Bridlewood

Payne Johnson of Shreveport, LA captured the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 division with a two-day total of 140. He led the field in lowest scoring average (70) after posting two impressive rounds of 72-68. Johnson’s great performance separated him and second place by more than 9 shots. Finishing in second place was Josiah Crews from Ninnekah, OK. Crews was tied for the lead after day one but fell a few shots back after his second round 77. He finished with a two-day total of 149 and secured his second-place finish by 9. Coming in third place was Zach Willard from Fort Worth, TX. Willard stayed consistent all weekend posting a pair of 79’s for a 158 total.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Major Championship at Bridlewood

In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 division, Ryan Gunning from Flower Mound, TX took home the victory by just one shot. Gunning was able to fight the charge from Knox Wagoner who was close in taking the victory. Wagoner was leading after day one and found himself tied for the lead coming into the 36th hole. Unfortunately, Wagoner scored a double bogey which dropped him one back with a two-day total of 157. Coming in third place from Shreveport, LA was Peyton Johnson. Johnson had the lowest round in his division (75) which was good enough to propel him up the leaderboard for his third-place finish.

Ernie Els 11-13

Major Championship at Bridlewood

Luke Powell took home first place honors this past weekend by 10 shots. His two rounds of 76-73 were good enough to have a 149 total for the weekend. He has played in three events this year and has won every one. Coming in second was Miguel Flores-Acton from San Angelo, TX. Flores improved from his first round by over 11 shots which secured his second-place finish. Third place honors were captured by Braxton Dean from Rockwall, TX. Dean had the most birdies in the division, but it wasn’t enough to better Is position. Dean’s two-day total of 165 secured his third-place finish.

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

Major Championship at Bridlewood

The Justin Timberlake Division came down to a tight finish. Courtney Battieste from Plano, TX inched her way to a three-shot victory after shooting 79-83 for a two day total of 162. Nitisha Manikandesh from Plano, TX came within 3 shots of first shooting 83-82 for a two-day total of 165. In third place was Ryan Ko. Ko will take home 700 points from the event after her two-day total of 168. This was good enough to secure ko’s third place title.

Justin Rose Girls U13

Major Championship at Bridlewood

In the Justin Rose Girls U13 division, Addison Ko from Plano, TX took the title. Ko shot an impressive 162 total after a +6 finish in the final round. 2 birdies on the weekend gave Ko her first place victory.

Boys 10 Under

Major Championship at Bridlewood

The boys U10 division could not have been any tighter. Each player shot 80 on the final day, but were separated by one shot. Andrea Birolini from South Lake shot a 78 in the first round which was one shot better than Zachary Morales (79) and two shots better than Caleb Austin (80).

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
