From Wednesday June 26th through Thursday June 27th,the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Lake Nona Junior Open. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of six divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Bryson DeChambeau Division Boys 10 and Under, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Division Girls 13 and Under.

Lake Nona Junior Open

Minjae Park of Lake Mary, FL took the first-round lead after scoring an outstanding 71. Park remained at the top of the leaderboard all weekend, with a final round of 72 and winning by a margin of 7 strokes. Robert Greninger of Orlando, FL finished in second place with rounds of 74 and 76 over the weekend for runner up honors. And rounding up our top-three was Trey Diehl of Orlando, FL with a weekend total of 151 strokes.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Lake Nona Junior Open

Cooper Claycomb of Orlando, FL was able to seal his victory with rounds of 75 and 77 over the weekend, making 2 birdies the last day to finish at a two-day total of 152 strokes. Andrew Wexler of Orlando, FL claimed runner-up honors with a weekend day total of 155, just 3 shots shy of the winner for the division. Rounding up the top three was Diego Passos of Orlando, FL with a weekend total of 158 strokes.

Ernie Els 11-13

Lake Nona Junior Open

Jiacheng Xu of Winter Garden, FL was able to seal his victory with a final round of 73 and a weekend total of 153 strokes. Xu made 3 birdies the last day to win by a four-shot victory over his closest competitor. Palmer Haynes of Orlando, FL shot a weekend total of 157 shots and claim runner-up honors. Rounding up our top-three was Davis Downing of Windermere, FL  with a weekend total of 160 strokes and claim solo third-place honors.

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

Lake Nona Junior Open

Sarah Scott of Oviedo, FL claimed first-place honors with a weekend total of 148 shots. Scott  was able to seal her victory with weekend rounds of 75 and 73 to win by a two-shot margin.  Caroline Nemes of Orlando, FL shot a weekend total of 150 shots to claim solo runner-up honors. Rounding up the top three was Kaitlin Chao of Orlando, FL with a weekend total of 153 shots to claim solo third-place honors.

Justin Rose Girls U13

Lake Nona Junior Open

Sammy Chao of Orlando, FL shot an impressive weekend total of 149 shots and a final round of 71 to claim victory. Chao was able to win by a 12 shot margin over her closest competitor. Following her was Elan Zhang of Orlando, FL with a weekend total of 161 shots to finish with solo runner-up honors. And rounding up our top-three was Arianna Leon of Davenport, FL with a weekend total of 162 shots and take solo third-place honors.

Nicklaus Downing of Winter Garden, FL was our lone competitor for the division with a weekend total of 167 shots. Downing shot consistent rounds over the weekend to claim victory on Sunday.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
