On Saturday, July 7 – Sunday, July 8, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Kelley Brooke Junior Open in Brooklyn, New York. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament that took place on The Marine Park Golf Club consisted of players from all six of our divisions, including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Kelley Brooke Junior Open

There was a playoff in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 as the top two finishers, Tyler Woodward and Alex Zhuo finished the thirty-six holes at +7. Woodward, of Durham, came up on top to take first and had the longest birdie or better streak (3) in his playing field. Third-place finisher was Joey Collins of McDonough, Georgia who finished just one stroke ahead at +8. 

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Ka Jun Yu of Kowloon was victorious in the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division as he finished the two-day tournament at +4. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (74) and the most birdies (4). Second-place finisher was Rohan Sikand of Colts Neck who made 158 strokes for a +14 finish. Plainsboro’s Raymond Xiong placed third as he completed the thirty-six holes at +17.

Ernie Els 11-13

Kelley Brooke Junior Open

In the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, it was Rayan Nabilzadeh of Stamford that got the first-place trophy as he finished +14. He led his playing field with the most birdies (3) and the lowest scoring average (79). There was a tie for second place, as JT Thomforde III (Ithaca, NY) and Argyle Downes (Charles Town) both made 162 strokes for a +18 finish through the thirty-six holes. 

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

Mariel Isabella Tee of Pasig City captured the victory in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division as she finished the thirty-six holes at +8. She led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (76) and the longest birdie or better streak (2). Amber Pennington of Accord finished second with 158 strokes (+14). Pennington and Tee each made 3 birdies to tie for the most in their field. Third-place finisher was Sahana Paravantavida of Dubai who made 163 strokes for a +19 finish. 

Justin Rose Girls U13

Kelley Brooke Junior Open

In the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division, it was Ning Yi (Amy) Li of Athens who secured the first-place title as she finished +9. She made 3 birdies and led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (76.5). Charlene Chung of Hong Kon placed second after her 159 strokes resulted in a +15 finish. Third-place finisher Sydney Young of New Canaan, Connecticut made 170 strokes for a +26 finish through the thirty-six holes. 

Boys 10 Under

Kelley Brooke Junior Open

Dennis Fitzgerald of Sea Girt, New Jersey was the champion in the Boys U10 Division as he finished +49 on the weekend. His 193 strokes, 2 birdies, and low scoring average of 96.5 helped him secure the title. This is Dennis’ fifth top 3 finish this season, and his second 1st place victory.

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
