On Saturday, June 23 – Sunday, June 24, 2018 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Joe Dumphy Memorial Junior Open in Flowery Branch, Georgia. The two-day, thirty-six-hole event that was held at the Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club consisted of players from five of our divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division, and the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division.
In the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Harrison Smith of Canton, Georgia took home the title as he finished -1. He made 7 birdies and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average at 71.5. Second-place finisher, Marc Mitchell of Atlanta, Georgia finished even on the weekend with 144 strokes. As for third-place, there was a three-way tie between Riley Grant (Rock Spring, GA), Braden Hochgertle (Dacula, GA), and Jackson Buchanan (Dacula, GA) as they all finished +1 through the thirty-six holes.
Sam Brummett of Newman, Georgia was victorious in the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division after finishing +3 on the weekend. He made 7 birdies and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (73.5), and the lowest Par 3 average (3.0). Hixson, Tennessee’s Brett Cooper placed second after finishing +5. Third-place finisher was Mason Dean of Duluth, Georgia who finished the weekend at +11.
Lucas Jinglov captured the first-place trophy in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division after finishing +6 on the weekend. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (75), the lowest par 3 (2.9) and he made 5 birdies. Hank Tollison of Savannah, Georgia placed second after finishing +10 in the two days. Third-place finisher was Nicklaus Cook of Enterprise, Alabama who finished +13.
Grace Jones of Hayesville, North Carolina captured the victory in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division after she finished +11 on the weekend. She made 3 birdies and led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (77.5) and the lowest Par 3 average (3.0). Madilyn Zimmerman of Johns Greek, Georgia finished +23 to secure the second-place title. Third-place finisher was Sanika Kulkarni of Alpharetta, Georgia who finished +24.
Boys 10 Under
In the Boys U10 Division, Hampton Threlkeld, of Savannah, Georgia, left the course with the first-place first place trophy as he finished with 168 strokes for a +24 finish. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (84) and the most birdies (2). Second-place finisher was Cole Rosich of Locust Grove who finished the thirty-six holes at +36.
