From Saturday June 15th through Sunday June 16th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Jacksonville Junior Open. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15,Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Division Girls 13 and Under.
Alex Whitehead of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL took the first-round lead after scoring an outstanding 72 on Saturday. Whitehead remained at the top of the leader board all weekend, with a final round of 77 and winning by a margin of 2 strokes. Nolan Zaepfel of Jacksonville, FL finished in second place with rounds of 73-78 over the weekend and finish with a total of 151 strokes. Rounding up our top three was Nolan Donze of North Easton with a weekend total of 152 strokes and claim third-place honors.
Aryan Kaila of Delhi, India shot an impressive final round of 71 claiming victory honors. Kaila was able to seal his victory with a weekend total of 148 shots and win by a two-stroke margin over his closest rival. Jon Wang of Melbourne, FL claimed runner-up honors with a weekend total of 150 strokes and a first round of 73. Rounding up the top three was Keanu Patel of Tampa, FL with a weekend total of 154 strokes to claim third-place honors.
Phillip Dunham of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL shot an impressive two-day total of 144 strokes with a first round of 71 on Saturday. Dunham was able to seal his victory with a final round 73 to win by a five-stroke margin. Tyler Taber of Mt. Pleasant, SC finished the weekend with an impressive 71 on Sunday to claim runner-up honors and a weekend total of 149shots. Rounding up the top-three was Henry Latta from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL with a weekend total of 170 shots to claim third-place honors.
Vasundhara Thiara of Chandigarh, India shot a final round 73 to finish with a weekend total of 148 shots and claim victory. Thiara was on top of the leaderboard all weekend to win by a margin of7 strokes over her closest competitor. Sakura Tanaka from Japan shot a weekend total of 155 strokes to claim solo runner-up honors. Rounding up the top-three was Ashley Huffman of Saint Johns, FL with a weekend total of 158 strokes to finish the weekend in third place.
Miya Okuda of Winter Garden, FL was able to seal her victory with a weekend total of 188 strokes. Okuda was able to improve her scoring on Sunday to take the win over her closest rival. Yumi Okuda of Winter Garden, FL shot a weekend total of 201 shots in order to take runner-up honors for the weekend.
