For the weekend of Saturday, September 2, 2017 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Franklin, Indiana to host the Indianapolis Junior Shootout at the beautiful The Legends Golf Club. The weather turned out to be beautiful this weekend as the 36-Hole event panned out to be a very nice event. The HJGT would like to thank Mr. Ted Bishop and the rest of The Legends Golf Club staff for their hospitality and cooperation in ensuring the maintenance of a pristine course.
Phillip Wong of West Bloomfield, MI is the Boys 16-18 Division champion after finishing Saturday with a 73 and Sunday with a 74 with a total of 147. Wong finished 5 strokes under second placeholder John Roder. Roder, who completed the event with a total of 152, fought hard for his place in two very competitive pairings this weekend. Finishing in third with 159 was Ryan Howard of Boonville, IN. Luckily, Ryan had a significant advantage of 12 strokes under the two opposing players who tied for fourth place.
The Boys 14-15 Division was a great spectacle as there were only 8 strokes between first and third place. Hudson Hummel of Louisville, KY came out on top with an overall of 147 (75-72) edging out the competition comfortably. A fellow Louisville native, Davis Money, finished out Round 1 just one stroke ahead of Hummel. Unfortunately, he was unable to maintain that small gap for Round 2 and finished with a 77. As for third place, Kody Reynolds of Columbus, IN completed the event with a total of 155 (74-81).
The Boys 11-13 Division was made up of a talented group of young men. The champion of the division, Rylan Wotherspoon, had the best overall score out of everyone who took part in the Indianapolis Junior Shootout, finishing with a total score of 146. Grasping the second spot was Alex Werner. The Chesterton, IN native finished 82-78, totaling to a score of 160 for the event. Third place went to Happy Gilmore, who sent his ball home enough to finish out the event with an overall score just five strokes above Werner’s total.
The older of the two girls divisions involved in this weekend’s event was made up of a couple of great golfers. In the Girls 14-18 division, Savannah Wayrauch of Bloomington, IL managed to claim the top spot in her division after finishing with a total of 163. Runner-up Destynie Sheridan competed well in both rounds; Round 1 with an 85 and Round 2 with a 91. These ladies are both experienced young golfers who show a lot of promise for their future in the sport.
A proficient group of young ladies fought neck-and-neck for their places in the Girls 13 Under division. Chelsea She of Buffalo, IL was crowned champion finishing strong with a total score of 168. With an overall score just one stroke above She’s 168 was Trinity Beth, and claiming third place was Averi Mickelson who completed Saturday’s round with a score of 90 and Sunday’s round ten strokes better with an 80. These girls played out a real-nail biter for their spectators.
Boys 10 Under
The Boys 10 Under division played out a spectacular event with each of the boys playing well on both Saturday and Sunday. First place went to Brycen Tisch of Zionsville, IN. Tisch finished the day with a total score of 171. Respectfully, Colin Kaleth the runner up finished out the event with a 183 (91-92). Grasping the third place trophy was Maverick Beeson of Lapel, IN. Beeson finished Round 1 with a 101 and improved his Round 2 score to a 95.
