HJGT/VCJGA Challenge at Cimarron Golf Resort

On Wednesday, August 30, 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Cathedral City, CA to host the HJGT/VCJGA Challenge at the gorgeous Cimarron Golf Resort. The players competed hard through the heat on both days to finish strong with some great scores. It was a great weekend for the players as well as everyone else involved with the event.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

HJGT/VCJGA Challenge at Cimarron Golf Resort

Mitchell Abbott of Morning Sun, Abbott is the Boys 16-18 division champion. Abbott won his division with an impressive 71 on Saturday and a 70 on Sunday for a two-day total of 141. Rylie Watson of Valencia, CA finished in 2nd with a two-day total of 155 (80-75). 3rd place was split between Joe Martin of La Quinta, CA and Matthew Pate of Santa Barbara, CA who both carded a two-day total of 157. All the players had a great time competing against each other on a beautiful course.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

HJGT/VCJGA Challenge at Cimarron Golf Resort

Jacob Tarkany of Scottsdale, AZ is the champion of the Boys 14-15 division. Jacob showed incredible maturity as he posted a first round score of 74 and a score of 76 on day two for a two-day total of 150. Brenden Borck of Camarilla, CA came in 2nd after finishing with a two-day total of 159 (87-72). DJ Verdugo of La Habre, CA was the 3rd place finisher after a two-day total of 164 (83-81). This division showed a lot of maturity and growth between the two days. They all can be very proud of their performances.

Ernie Els 11-13

HJGT/VCJGA Challenge at Cimarron Golf Resort

Gavin McCormick of Thousand Oaks, CA is the Boys 11-13 champion. After shooting a 75 on Saturday, Gavin finished strong on day two with a 72 with a two-day total of 147. Sahir Baylan of Woodland Hills, CA finished 2nd with a two-day total of 150 (73-77). There was some fierce competition between the two down the stretch. Both competitors had a great time on the golf course over the weekend and fought very hard throughout the tournament.

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

HJGT/VCJGA Challenge at Cimarron Golf Resort

Lindsay Yao of Whittier, CA is the Girls 14-18 champion. Yao had an 86 on  Saturday and followed that up with a strong 82 on Sunday for a two-day total of 168. Finishing in 2nd from Edmonton, Canada was Jenna Bruggeman who posted two consistent rounds of 84 with a total of 168. These two competed hard on every hole, which resulted in a playoff to determine the outright champion. The competition was so fierce it took 3 playoff holes to determine the winner.

Justin Rose Girls U13

HJGT/VCJGA Challenge at Cimarron Golf Resort

Chloe Tarkany is the Girls under 13 champion. Tarkany of Scottsdale, AZ came out on top after scoring a two-day total of 156 (76-80). Finishing 2nd with a two-day total of 160 (81-79) from Simi Valley, CA was Ashlynn Reid. Finishing 3rd for the girls under 13 from Hacienda Heights, CA was Chloe Kim after scoring a two-day total of 165 (86-79). This division was full of great competitors whose spirits never went down through the heat and difficult course.

Boys 10 Under

HJGT/VCJGA Challenge at Cimarron Golf Resort

Carter Gaede of Manhattan Beach, LA took home the first-place trophy for the Boys 10 Under division. Gaede shot an impressive 72 on Saturday and finished with a strong 73 on Sunday for a two-day total of 145. Ty Weaver of Bakersfield, CA finished 2nd after a two-day total of 160 (78-82). Coming in 3rd was Kai Salinas from San Diego, CA after scoring a two-day score of 171 (85-86). All players had a great time competing with each other and developing their games over the weekend.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
