Grand Cypress Junior Open

From August 31st and September 1st, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Grand Cypress Junior Open. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and Justin Rose Division Girls Under 13.

Boys 16-18

Grand Cypress Junior Open

Tiger Woods division went into a Play off at the end going into a 3-way tie. Zhongyu Zhang of Davenport, Fl, Matt Cooper of Tampa, Florida and Aaron Williams of Owings Mills, MD all tied with a weekend score of 151. After a 3-way playoff, Zhongyu Zhang was our first-place finisher. Matt Cooper was our runner-up and Aaron Williams rounded out the top three.

Boys 14-15

Grand Cypress Junior Open

Tymon Sun, from Windermere, FL was able to seal his victory by ending the weekend with scores of 79 and 83 for a combined total of 162. Sebastian Navarro from Winter Garden, Fl was the runner up with scores of 83 and 81 for a 164 weekend total. To round out the top three was Tyron Sun from Windermere, FL.  Sun ended the weekend with scores of 84 and 83 for a total of 167.

Grand Cypress Junior Open

Davis Downing from Windermere, FL was the first-place finisher this weekend.Downing brought in scores of 75 and 76 with a combined score of 151. Lion Ziao Lu from Ocoee, Fl was the second-place finisher with scores of 85 and 82 for a total of 167. To round out the top three was Nicklaus Downing from Winter Garde, FL.  Downing ended the weekend with scores of 87 and 81 for a total of 168.

Girls 14-18

Grand Cypress Junior Open

Sritha Vemuri from Lake Mary, FL was the top finisher with impressive scores of 79 and 81 for a 160 weekend finish. Victoria Tan from Kuala Lumpur, FL took home the runner up title with scores of 79 and 82 for a weekend total of 161. Yumi Okuda from Winter Garde, FL rounded out the top three with scores of 105 and 103 a combined total of 208.

Girls U13

Grand Cypress Junior Open

Carmella Carlisi from Flagler Beach, FL was the top finisher for the Justin Rose division with scores of 78 and 84. Her combined total for the weekend was 162 strokes. Katie Yang from Orlando, FL was the runner up for the weekend with scores of 88 and 83, a combined total of 171 strokes.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 8-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. The tour’s vision is to provide superb hospitality and make every event a memorable one. With play open to both males and females, nearly every junior golfer is eligible to participate on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Currently the HJGT is the largest multi-day junior golf tour in the United States hosting more 2-day nationally ranked events than any other tour. The HJGT has been able to achieve this goal by running the most professional events and providing an exceptional value to all of our players and families over the last 14 years.

Based out of Orlando, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the country. In 2021, the HJGT will conduct events in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Canada. Juniors will compete in 1 of 6 divisions which are: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys under 10, Girls 14-18, and Girls Under 13. Click here to view approximate yardages for each division. The HJGT season is based on a calendar year and players earn points throughout the season towards year end honors beginning December 31, 2021.
