Dallas Summer Junior Open

On Saturday, July 21 – Sunday, July 22, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Dallas Summer Junior Open in Plano, Texas. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament that took place on The Courses at Walters Creek – Traditions Course, consisted of players from all six of our divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Bryson DeChambeau Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Dallas Summer Junior Open

Travis Bolles of Wichita Falls, Texas captured the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division following his +15 total through the thirty-six holes. He made two birdies and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average of 79.5. Jack Sorensen of Farmers Branch placed second after making 161 strokes for a +17 finish. Third-place finisher was Matthew Stover of Lantana whose 162 strokes resulted in a +18 finish on the weekend. Both Sorensen and Stover led their playing field with the most birdies as they each made 5.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Dallas Summer Junior Open

It was Kyle Nguyenphu, of Allen, Texas, who was victorious in the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division this weekend, finishing the two days at +13. He led his playing field with the most birdies (3), the lowest Par-3 average (3.2), and the lowest scoring average (78.5). Second-place finisher, Slayter Colbath of Andrews made 171 strokes to total at +27. Hunter Johnston of Burnieville claimed the third-place spot after he made 191 strokes to result in a +47 finish.

Ernie Els 11-13

Dallas Summer Junior Open

In the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Bennett Wicker of Shreveport walked away the champion after his two rounds totaled at +2. He led his playing field with the lowest Par-3 average (2.8) and the lowest scoring average (73). As for second-place, it was Miguel Flores-Acton of San Angelo, Texas who made 160 strokes for a +16 finish. Bennett and Miguel tied for the most birdies (6) and the longest birdie or better streak (2) in their playing field. Gunner Hamon of Blair placed third after making 165 strokes to complete the thirty-six holes at +21.

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

Nicole Taylor of Mayfield, Kentucky placed first in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division with her +5 total through the thirty-six holes. He led his playing field with the most birdies (6) and the lowest scoring average (74.5). Lauren Nguyenphu of Allen, Texas placed second after her 156 strokes resulted in a +12 finish. As for third-place, it was Miyoko Tan and Janane Tan, both of Coppell, Texas, who both shot 157 strokes to total +13 for the two days.

Justin Rose Girls U13

Dallas Summer Junior Open

It was Plano native, Addison Ko, who secured the victory in the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division this weekend as she shot 159 strokes to total +15. She led her playing field with the most birdies (4), the lowest Par-3 average (3.1), and the lowest scoring average (79.5). Second-place finisher was Beans Factor of Ada, Oklahoma who made 165 strokes through the thirty-six holes to finish at +21 on the weekend.

Boys 10 Under

Dallas Summer Junior Open

The Bryson DeChambeau Boys U10 champion title was claimed by Lantana’s Grant Baer who made 159 strokes for a +15 finish through the two-day tournament. He led his playing field with the most birdies (4), the lowest Par-3 average (3.9), and the lowest scoring average (79.5).

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
