On Saturday, June 16 – Sunday June 17, 2018 The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Connecticut Summer Junior Open at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Fairfield, CT. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole, two-day format and the field was made from five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.
Tyler Woodward of Durham, NC captured the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 division with a two day total of 147. He led the field in birdies (9) and birdie or better streak (3). He was able to keep the lead in the second round because of his even round on day one. He finished only 1 stroke below second place finisher Mark Gertsen of New Canaan, CT, and 2 strokes below Sean Fitzgerald, who came in at 149 (+7).
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 division, Robbie Herzig of New York, NY took home the victory after shooting 6 birdies and finishing one under in the final round. Second place finisher and Trumbull native Charlie Duffy shot a total of 157 (+15). James Pryor of Somers, NY finished third despite his 4 birdies, shooting a two round total of 160.
Jack Turner of Saunderstown, RI won the weekend for the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 division. He shot a combined 149 after posting an impressive +1 round on day two. Elias Kennon from Old Greenwich, CT, despite a 75 stroke round on day 1 and 7 birdies, finished second with a total score of 156. In third was Lucas Rizo-Patron of Rye NY after a 78 stroke round on day 2 (+5) and 5 total birdies.
After 36 holes, Amber Pennington of Accord, NY shot a total of 153 (+7) and an impressive 74 (+1) on day one. Pennington led the contest in birdies with 8, followed by second place finisher Ananya Barthakur of New Delhi, NJ with had 6. Coming in third was Irene Wang from Irvine, who shot 78 and 81 for a total score of 159.
In the Justin Rose Girls U13 division, Eleanor Parkerson from Boston, MA took the title. Parkerson shot 156 total after a +7 finish in the final round. Nicole Criscone of Clifton Park, NY, despite 6 birdies on the weekend and a +4 final round (77), took second by 2 strokes (158). Coming in third was Kennedy Swedick from Altamont, NY who shot a total 160.
