GRANVILLE - The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Columbus Junior Open at the Denison Golf Club from May 20-21. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
Boys 16-18

Taking the lead in the boys 16-18 division this weekend was Bric Baird from Columbus, OH. For his first tournament with HJGT, Baird played an outstanding game this weekend. With five birdies on the weekend, his scores of 78 and 73 brought him to a total of 151 strokes for the weekend to take home first place. Tanner Wood placed as our runner up honors with a round 1 score of 74 and 78 for round 2. From Reynoldsburg, OH, Wood has played in a handful of HJGT tournaments before and his weekend total of 152 strokes was arguably his best score since joining in 2022. Placing in top three honors was Jonah Schollaert from Sewickley, PA. With four birdies, Schollaert finished off the weekend with 153 strokes.
Boys 14-15

Brady Barnum from Dublin, OH was our first place winner in the boys 14-15 division, he had an impressive scorecard this weekend. With seven birdies, Barnum brought in scores of 73 and 71 for a total of 144 strokes for the weekend. Brady has been playing in HJGT tournaments since 2018 and placed in the top two each time. Taking home runner up honors was Gavin Gress from Coshocton, OH. With four birdies on the weekend, Gress had scores of 75 for round 1 and 78 for round 2 for a total of 153. To finish up top three honors, Brady Evans and Grant Roush tied with very similar scorecards. Evans, from New Philidelphia, OH brought in scores of 78 and 79 while Roush, from Mason, WV scored an 80 and 77. Both finished off with 157 strokes for the weekend.
Boys 11-13

In the boys 11-13 division, Blaise Barnum from Dublin, OH was the champion. Barnum had a fantastic weekend on the course and brought in scores of 77 and 74. With six birdies, he finished off with a total of 151 strokes. With a total of 157 strokes for the weekend, Colton Gress from Coshocton, OH and Owen Heilmann from Galena, OH, tied for runner up honors. Gress brought in scores of 81 and 76 while Heilmann made four birdies with scores of 77 and 80. Both boys did an amazing job this weekend and we can’t wait to see how they both do in their next tournament.
Girls 14-18

To finish off a great weekend, Isabella Anderson was able to secure a first place win in her first HJGT tournament since 2020. Anderson, from Columbus, OH had a fantastic scorecard this weekend. With five birdies, she brought in scores of 75 and 76 for a combined 151 strokes. Isabella has played in a handful of HJGT tournaments and usually places in the top 10, her score improves with every tournament. Bringing home runner up honors was Elizabeth Ryu from Dublin, OH. With two birdies and outstanding scores of 81 and 78, Ryu totaled 159 strokes for the weekend. Andrea Golden from Columbus, OH and Eliza Mercer from Gahanna, OH tied for top three honors with a combined score of 167 strokes.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 8-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. The tour’s vision is to provide superb hospitality and make every event a memorable one. With play open to both males and females, nearly every junior golfer is eligible to participate on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Currently the HJGT is the largest multi-day junior golf tour in the United States hosting more 2-day nationally ranked events than any other tour. The HJGT has been able to achieve this goal by running the most professional events and providing an exceptional value to all of our players and families over the last 14 years.
Based out of Orlando, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the country. In 2021, the HJGT will conduct events in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Canada. Juniors will compete in 1 of 6 divisions which are: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys under 10, Girls 14-18, and Girls Under 13. Click here to view approximate yardages for each division.
