From Saturday June 1stthrough Sunday June 2nd, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Columbus Jr. Open presented by Steve Lynn Golf Performance in Darby Creek Golf Course, OH. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of six divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Bryson DeChambeau Division Boys 10 and Under, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Division Girls 13 and Under.
Jack Billups of Memphis TN, took the first-round lead after scoring an impressive 69 on the first round and remaining at the top of the leaderboard all weekend. Billups followed up his exceptional first-round score with a 74 on Sunday with birdies on holes 4, 6 and 10 to win by an eight-shot margin over Dylan Ledford of Apple Creek, OH. Ledford finished in second place after shooting a two-round total of 151 with a 72 even par the las day. And rounding up the top-three was Aaron Apticar of Canal Fulton, OH with a two-day total of 152.
Ethan McDonald of Dublin, OH shot a two-day total of 155 to take an early lead on Saturday with a 77 and remain in contention through Sunday, winning with a five-stroke margin over his closest competitor. Closing out the week with a 78 on Sunday, McDonald was able to take home the hardware. Runner-up Aditya Reddy of Dublin, OH shot a two-day total of 160 to take solo second-place honors. Rounding up the top-three for the division was Jared Wells from Hilliard, OH with a total of 163 for the week.
Jackson Harris of Powell, OH led the Ernie Els Boys Division with a 157 two-round total to take an early lead with a first-round 77 and stay on top of the leaderboard all weekend. Harris closed out his two-day total with an 80 on Sunday and take home the hardware. Following his lead, Kyle Allen of Dublin, OH finished with a two-day total of 184 strokes and take solo runner-up honors. And finishing up the top-three was Quentin Stall of Dayton, OH with a total of 187 strokes for the week.
Maddi Shoults of Circleville, OH shot a stellar a two-day total of 161 strokes to take home first-place honors with a nine-shot margin over her closest competitor. Shoults finished her week with a 79 on Sunday and birdies on holes 3, 10 and 15 to seal her victory. Following her was Vileska Gelpi of Markleton, PA with a two-day total 170 stokes and a final-round of 83. Rounding up the top-three, Brooke DeVolld of Ashville, OH finished the weekend with a total of 175 strokes and claim solo third-place honors.
Boys 10 Under
Landon Snyder of Roanoke, IN lead the way in the Boys 10 and Under division with a total of 163 strokes for the week. Shooting a stellar 78 the last day to finish at the top of the leaderboard, our lone competitor sealed his first place honors with birdies on holes 3 and 7 the last day.
