On Saturday, July 14 – Sunday, July 15, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the College Prep Series at UK #3 in Lexington, Kentucky. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament held on the University Club- Big Blue Course consisted of players from five of our divisions, including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.
Davis Money of Louisville, Kentucky captured the first-place title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division with his -3 finish. He led his playing field with the longest birdie or better streak (3), the most birdies (7), the lowest Par 3 average (2.8), and the lowest scoring average (70.5). Jacob Connors, also of Louisville, finished second as he made 147 strokes to result in his two-round total of +3. Third-place finisher was Tyler Allred of Prospect, Kentucky who shot 149 strokes for a +5 finish.
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division it was Aidan Gutierrez of Valparaiso who was the champion as he finished at +14. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (79) and the most birdies (3). Paxton Schwomeyer of Oakland City placed second because of his 160 strokes for a +16 finish. Third-place finisher was Jake Leonberger of Simpsonville who finished one stroke shy with 161 strokes to finish at +17.
Weston Miller’s successful thirty-six holes resulted in him winning the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division after he made 164 strokes for a +20 finish. Miller, of Jackson, led his playing field with the most birdies (2), the lowest Par 3 average (3.5), and the lowest scoring average (82).
Maggie Schaffer of Indianapolis, Indiana captured the victory in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division with a +8 finish. She led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (76), the most birdies (5), the longest birdie or better streak (2), and the lowest Par 3 average (3.1). Lexington native, Peyton Schaffer, placed second at +14 with 158 strokes. Third-place finisher was Kathleen Gibbs, also of Lexington, who had 161 strokes for a +17 finish through the thirty-six holes.
In the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division, it was Macie Brown of Mount Washington, Kentucky who took home the first-place title with her +9 finish on the weekend. She led her playing field with the most birdies (3), the longest birdie or better streak (2), the lowest Par 3 average (3.2), and the lowest scoringa average (76.5). Second-place finisher was Madison Borders of Bardstown, Kentucky who shot 176 strokes for a +32 finish. Hailey Coleman of Radcliff, Kentucky finished third after her 199 strokes helped her finish at +55.
