On Saturday May 19 – Sunday May 20, 2018 The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the second College Prep Series at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole, two-day format and the field was made from five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18 and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.
Jaden Weisman of Malvern, PA captured the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 division with a two day total of 141. He led the field in most birdies (9) and lowest scoring average (70.5). He was able to keep the lead in the second round after shooting an impressive 70 (-1) in round two, finishing just one stroke below second place finisher Blake Evans of West Liberty, KY. Evans fell just short of winning the most birdies and scoring average leaderboards with 8 birdies and a 71.0 average. Coming in third place was Stephan Warren shooting a two round total of 144.
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 division, Jay Nimmo from Benton KY took home the title after being the only player to finish under par. Nimmo shot a 69 (-3) in round one to post a total 143 finish on the weekend. He led in most birdies (8), scoring average (71.5), and finished at the top of the par 3 leaderboard with a 2.8 average. Second place finisher Allan Lockwood from Elizabethtown, KY, finished 2 over both days, giving him a 148 total score. He finished second in both the par 3 and scoring average leaderboards. Jackson Hill rallied back in the second round shooting a 1 under par 71 to take home 3rd place honors.
Alexander Bennett of Georgetown, KY won the weekend for the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 division with a combined total of 153. An impressive 75 stroke finish after day 1 and 76.5 scoring average would seal the deal for Bennett. Second place finisher Cameron Phillips from Portsmouth, OH narrowly came in second despite 9 birdies, finishing at 155 after both rounds. Happy Gilmore took home the third place honors after shooting a two day total of 162.
Katherine James of Pittsburgh, PA was the champion of the Justin Timberlake Division. After 36 holes, James shot a 139 (-5) overall, shooting under par on both days. She led in most birdies with 9, and posted an impressive 69.5 scoring average. Coming in second was Emily Hummer (146) and Kira Wolf at a close third (147). Wolf placed second in most birdies (8) and finished at 3 over. Kira Wolf improved on her second round by one shot which secured her third place finish and a two day total of 147.
In the Justin Rose Girls U13 division, Macie Brown from Mount Washington, KY took the title. Ending at 158 total, Brown earned her second first place finish of the 2018 season. She concluded the first round with 36 strokes (par) and a 3.5 par 3 average. Mia Hammond of Crooksville, OH posted a total score of 170 to take second place after a first place finish last weekend in Pittsburgh. Hammond led the weekend in birdies (2). Madison Borders secured her third place finish by 8 stroked with a two day total of 174.
