On Saturday, August 4 – Sunday, August 5, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the College Prep Series at Penn State #2 in State College, Pennsylvania. The two-day, thirty-six-hole course held at the Penn State Golf Club - White consisted of players from five of our divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.
Tiger Woods Boys 16-18
Evan Sitts’ round one (70) helped him total -1 at the end of the two rounds to win the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division. The Oneonta, New York native made 3 birdies, had a Par-3 average of 3.0, and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average of 71.5. As for second-place, there was a three-way tie as Brett Ostroski (Shavertown, PA), Parker Johnson (Venetia), and Un Ning (Macau, CA) all made 145 strokes to finish at +1.
Will Smith Boys 14-15
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Jack Urban of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania captured the first-place trophy after totaling +5 through the thirty-six holes. He made 4 birdies and led his playing field with the longest birdie or better streak (2) and the lowest scoring average (74.5). Zachary Locke (Horsheads, NY) and Michael Snyder (Frederick, MD) tied for second as they both made 153 strokes over the course of the two days to finish +9.
Ernie Els 11-13
State College native, Maxwell Wager was victorious with his +14 total in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division. He led his playing field with the most birdies (6), the longest birdie or better streak (2), and the lowest scoring average (79). Henry Stone of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania placed second after completing the thirty-six holes at +16. Third-place finisher was Griffin Walizer of Mill Hall who made 172 strokes for a +28 finish.
Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18
Pan Yiting of Shanghai claimed the title in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division with her two-day total of +8. She made 2 birdies, had a Par-3 average of 3.2, and led her playing field with the lowest scoring average of 76. There was a tie for second-place between Angelina Tolentino (Mount Laurel, NJ) and Kiaira Porter (Monaco, PA) as they each made 154 strokes through the thirty-six holes to finish at +10.
Justin Rose Girls U13
The Justin Rose Girls U13 Division’s tournament champion was Kayla Maletto of Sinking Springs who dominated the two days with a total of +17. She made 2 birdies and led her playing field with the lowest Par-3 average (3.2) and the lowest scoring average (80.5). Second-place finisher was Lihini Ranaweera of Cranberry Township who made 173 strokes for a +29 finish. Marissa Malosh of South Fayette, Pennsylvania shot 174 strokes through the thirty-six holes to result in a +30 finish, claiming the third-place spot.
