College Prep Series at Penn State #1

On Saturday, June 9 – Sunday, June 10, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the College Prep Series at Penn State #1 in State College, Pennsylvania. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament played at the Penn State Golf Club consisted of players from five divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

College Prep Series at Penn State #1

Scott Bitar of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, captured the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division with a total of 148 strokes for a +4 finish. He led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (74) and the lowest par 3 average (2.9). Gregor Meyer, also of Pittsburgh, finished second with 150 strokes for a +6 finish on the weekend and a scoring average of 75. Donnie Professori (Wexford, PA) and Dominic Sampedro (Leesburg, VA) tied for third at +7 with 151 strokes.  Meyer and Sampedro tied for the most birdies in their playing field, each with 6.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

College Prep Series at Penn State #1

In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Carter Hassenplug of North East, Pennsylvania, took home the first-place title after a +9 finish on the weekend. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average of 76.5. Seth Conway, from Elmira, New York, finished second with a total of 157 strokes for a +13 finish. Andrew Poon (Venetia, PA), Luke Thompson (Palmyra, PA), Alex Turowski (Harrison City, PA), and Devin Smith (Waynesboro, PA) all tied for third after all making 161 strokes in the two-day tournament for a +17 finish. Poon had the most birdies in the playing field with 7.

Ernie Els 11-13

College Prep Series at Penn State #1

Rocco Salvitti of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, captured the victory in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division after breaking even in the final round (-2) for a tournament finish of +1. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (72.5) and the most birdies (6). Benjamin Saggers, of West Chester, Pennsylvania, was the second-place golfer after finishing +6 with 150 total strokes. Third-place finisher was Breckin Taylor of Fairview, Pennsylvania, who had a total of 172 strokes for a +28 finish.

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

College Prep Series at Penn State #1

The Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division’s first-place title was won by Jessica Hahn of Canton, Ohio who finished +1 with 145 total strokes. Her performance in round 1 (-2) helped her become victorious as did her 6 birdies that contributed to her having the lowest scoring average in the playing field (72.5). Olivia Patrow of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, finished in second-place with 156 total strokes (+12) on the weekend. Third-place finisher was Olivia Wirsching of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania who finished +16 with 160 total strokes.

Justin Rose Girls U13

College Prep Series at Penn State #1

Brooke Oberparleiter of Laurel Springs, New Jersey captured the victory in the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division after a two-day total of 153 strokes (+9). She led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (76.5), the most birdies (6), and the longest birdie or better streak (2). Second-place finisher, Ava O’Sullivan of Exton, Pennsylvania, had 170 strokes with 2 birdies for a +26 finish. Marissa Malosh (Bridgeville, PA) and Hannah Rabb (Watsontown, PA) tied for third-place after both making 172 strokes for a +28 finish.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
