On Thursday, October 5th, the Hurricane Junior Tour, stopped in Greenville, SC to set up shop at Furman University Golf Club for the College Prep Series at Furman. Hurricane Nate was supposed to make a presence for this weekend’s event; however, the only hurricane presence in Greenville, SC was this weekend’s golf tournament. The early mornings brought in some humidity and a light rain, but as both days progressed, the rain stopped, making for some suitable golf weather. The HJGT would like to thank the staff at Furman University Golf Club for providing an amazing golf atmosphere for this weekend’s tournament.
JJ Keene, of Daniel Island, is the Boys 16-18 Division champion after finishing Saturday with an even par 72 and Sunday with a 74. JJ finished with a tight one stroke victory over second place finisher Arthur Draijer and two strokes over third place finisher, Aj Gilpin. The players competed at the highest level to secure their spots at the top.
The Boys 14-15 Division was a tight race among the top three. There was a 1-stroke difference between first and a tie for second place. Sam Brummett of Newnan, GA was crowned the College Prep Series at Furman’s 14-15 champion shooting a 154 for both rounds. Jake Peacock of Milton, GA and Nathan Webb of Signal Mountain, TN were only one stroke away from first, with Jake shooting a 76 and 79 totaling 155 and Nathan shooting 76 and 79 totaling 155.
Yeon Joo Kim is the Girls 14-18 champion. Shooting a 76 and a 77 helped secure the crown for the Seoul, South Korea native with a total 153 for the weekend. There was a three-way tie for 2nd place between Carolina Crumrine (78-79) representing Wilmington, NC, Savannah Hylton (72-85) of Hilton Head, SC, and Maria Fernanda Sosa (76- 81) representing Monterrey, Mexico. All three finished this weekend’s tournament with a total of 157. This women’s age division was an extremely competitive one throughout the weekend.
Boys 10 Under
The Boys U10 was the youngest group to compete during this weekend’s tournament. Hugh Faulkner of Greenville, SC battled through the moderate winds throughout Saturday’s and Sunday’s round. This young golfer displayed his talents by shooting an 81 on Saturday and a 76 on Sunday totaling a score of 157; taking the top spot of the Boys U10 division as this weekend’s champion. Falling just 21 strokes short, from Greer, SC, William Allender finished this weekend’s event shooting 178 to take the 2nd place spot in this competitive age division. Shooting a 90 on the first day and a 92 on the second day with a total of 182, Jackson Armbuster finished his weekend as the Boys U10 3rd place finisher.
