On Saturday, July 28 – Sunday, July 29, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the College Prep Series at Augusta State. The two-day, thirty-six-hole course held at the Forest Hills Golf Club consisted of players five of our divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Bryson DeChambeau Boys U10 Division, and the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division.
Peech Bunnabodee won the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division following his E total through the thirty-six holes. He made 7 birdies and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (72). Second-place finisher, Luke Cashion of Waxhaw, North Carolina, completed the two-day tournament with a total of +1. Will Spivey of Douglas, Georgia placed third after making 146 strokes for a +2 finish.
Guy Buffum of Columbia, South Carolina claimed the title in the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division after totaling +11. He made 3 birdies and led his playing field with the lowest Par-3 average (3.1), the longest birdie or better streak (2), and the lowest scoring average (77.5). James Baker of Johns Creek placed second following his 157 strokes that resulted in a +13 finish. Evan Prickett of North Augusta finished second after making 158 strokes for a +14 total through the weekend.
It was a fight to the finish in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 as Miles Eubanks and Chuck Stanley, both of Warrenville, South Carolina, totaled +11 through the thirty-six holes. Miles came out on top in the playoff, resulting in Chuck’s second-place finish. There was a tie for third-place between Ashton Eubanks (Lexington, SC) and Cameron Biddle (Aiken, SC), as they both finished at +14 at the end of the two rounds.
Madison Harwell of Evans, Georgia secured the first-place trophy in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division with her +4 total through the weekend. She made 4 birdies and led her playing field with the lowest scoring average of 74. Taipei’s Chiachian Hsieh placed second following her 152 strokes that resulted in a +8 finish. Third-place finisher was Kendall Smith of Martinez, Georgia who made 153 strokes through the thirty-six holes to finish at +9.
Boys 10 Under
North Augusta’s Mason McNeill was the champion in the Bryson DeChambeau Boys U10 Division following his +89 finish at the end of the two-day tournament. He led his playing field with the lowest Par-3 average (5.1) and the lowest scoring average (116.5). This was Mason’s first event on tour with us this year, and his season already looks promising.
