On Saturday, October 21, 2017 and Sunday, October 22, 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted a tournament in Wheaton, Illinois at Cantigny Golf Club. The front and back nine were split between courses. The front nine was played on Hillside and the back nine was played on Woodside. The players continued to perform well as the tournament progressed throughout the weekend. A major challenge was the extreme weather condition, but this did not deter them one bit.
Muzzy Donohue of Mendota Height, MN is the boys’ 16-18 champion. Peterson won his division with an improving score of 76 on Saturday and a 70 on Sunday for a two-day total of 146. Mark Noonan of Vernon Hills, IL finished in 2nd with a two-day total of 149 (76-73). 3rd place was a tie between Andrew Scholz of Fairway, KS (153) (78-75) and Jack Rowe of Saint Paul, MN (153) (76-77). All the players had a great time competing against each other on a beautiful course.
Michael Smith of Valparaiso, IN is the champion of the Boys 14-15 division. DJ showed the drive to shoot his best on each hole even though he posted a first round score of 78 and a score of 75 on day two for a two-day total of 153. Jacob Tarkany of Scottsdale, AZ came in 2nd after finishing with a two-day total of 154 (77-77). 3rd place was taken by Grant Norman of Fort Wayne, IN with a two-day total of 159 (79-80). These three battled head-to-head-to-head throughout the whole tournament.
Issa Kuwahara of Northbrook, IL is the boys’ 11-13 champion. After posting an 84 on Saturday, Issa followed it up with a 78 on Sunday for a two-day total of 162. Brody McCarthy of Homer Glen, IL finished 2nd with a two-day total of 165 (81-84). 3rd place was taken by Tommy Philpot of St. John, IN with a two-day total of 166. Everyone in this age division pushed each other throughout the tournament. This made the field that much more competitive.
Sarah Arnold of St. Charles, IL is the girls’ 14-18 champion. Arnold had a 77 on Saturday and followed it up with a score of 83 on Sunday for a two-day total of 160. Finishing in 2nd from St. Charles, IL was Nicole Jordan who posted consistent rounds of 81 and 82 with a total of 163. 3rd place was taken by Elizabeth Anderson of Lockport, IL. This age group challenged each other with their amazing drives as well as their short game on each hole.
Lisa Copeland is the girls’ 13 and under champion. Copeland of Naperville, IL came out on top after scoring a two-day total of 180 (88-92). 2nd place was taken by Amanda Saunders of Austin Texas. Saunders posted a two-day total of 190 (92-98). Copeland and Saunders were going stroke for stroke. The factor that truly made the biggest impact was the weather itself.
Boys 10 Under
Kevin Wesolowski of Hickory Hills, IL took home the first-place trophy for the boys’ under 10 division. Wesolowski shot a score of 92 on Saturday and finished by cutting down his strokes by 9 on Sunday (83). For the two day weekend he shot 175. Finishing in 2nd from Crown Point, IN was Sam Carraher who posted rounds of 84 and 92 with a total of 176. 3rd place was taken by Joseph Scott of San Lemont, IL.
