On Saturday, June 9 – Sunday, June 10, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Chateau Elan Summer Junior Open in Braselton, Georgia. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament played at the Chateau Elan Golf Club consisted of players from five divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.
Joey Collins of McDonough, Georgia took home the first-place title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division with a two-day total of +6 (148). He made 4 birdies and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average of 74. Jackson Buchanan, of Dacula, Georgia, and Kenny Duffin, of Hoschton, Georgia, tied for second-place after both totaling 150 strokes over the thirty-six-hole course for a +8 finish. Buchanan had the most birdies in the playing field with 7.
The Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division’s title was captured by James Baker of Johns Creek, Georgia who finished the weekend -2 (140 strokes) after his best round on Sunday in which he shot -5. He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (70) and made the most birdies (7). Second-place finisher was Will Jones of Alpharetta, Georgia who finished +13 with a total of 155 strokes. Walter Smith, from Buford, Georgia, shot +14 with 156 strokes for the third-place finish.
Alpharetta, Georgia’s Brennan Cozad won the first-place trophy in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division with 146 strokes for a +4 finish. He led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (73), the most birdies (5), and the longest birdie or better streak (2). Clayton Couey, of Johns Creek, Georgia, finished second at +15 after 157 strokes through thirty-six holes. Third-place finisher was Grant Langford of LaFayette, Georgia who was +16 (158 strokes).
Hailey Han, of Duluth, Georgia, captured the title in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division with a weekend total of 147 strokes for a +5 finish. She led the playing field with the lowest scoring average of 73.5. Meghna Grover of Duluth, Georgia, and Alice Acosta, of Suwanee, Georgia, tied for second with 152 strokes after thirty-six holes for a +10 finish. Han and Grover both tied for the most birdies in the playing field with 4.
In the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division, Haven Ward of Atlanta, Georgia took home the first-place trophy after finishing +21 (163 strokes). She led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (81.5) and the most birdies (3). Second-place finisher was Carlee Rogers of Chattanooga, Tennessee, who finished +28 after 170 strokes and 2 birdies.
