From Saturday, March 23 – Sunday, March 24, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Charlotte Junior Open at Deer Brook Golf Club in Shelby, NC. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole, two-day format and the field was made from five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Division Girls 13 and Under.
There was a tight race for first in the Tiger Woods Division, but Purin Yingpisit from Florida ended up on top with a two-day total of 150 strokes. Just one stroke shy of first was Phoomintr Kaewvichien from Florida with 151 strokes. Rounding out the division was Bryce Wittmer of Tega Cay, SC with 157 strokes.
Competition was fierce in the Will Smith Division this weekend, as there was a two-way tie for first place. Dylan Dunn of Stow, OH and Bryant Armbruster of Spartanburg, SC tied with 170 strokes. They went into a playoff afterwards, where Dunn ended up on top. Colby McCaskill of Fort Mill, SC rounded out the podium just two strokes behind the first-place winners.
Consistent play both days allowed Shaun Thompson of Durham, NC to win first place in his division, with a two-day total of 157 strokes. Jason Zawtocki of Charlotte, NC finished in second with 167 strokes. Just four strokes behind him was third-place finisher, Jackson Armbruster of Simpsonville, SC
Leading off the Justin Timberlake Division this past weekend was Suwarin Yordin of Florida with 151 strokes. Jirada Kluaymaingarm of Florida and Nicole Whatley of Northville, MI rounded out the division with 155 and 159 strokes respectively.
Ella Baird of Avon Lake, OH was the champion of the Justin Rose Division. She stayed consistent as she shot 93 the first day and 94 the second day.
