On Saturday the 19th, 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Peachtree City, Georgia to host the Canongate Series #6 at the Braelinn Golf Club. The golfers enjoyed great weather as the summer winds down and transitions into fall. Overall, the players had a wonderful weekend playing under some beautiful summer sun, where some impressive scores were recorded.
Shyam Joshi of Dacula, Georgia is the boys 16-18 champion. Joshi posted a 76 on Saturday and a 70 on Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 146. He beat out Jake Nigro of Peachtree City, Georgia for the win. Jake, who was leading the field going into Sunday had a 71 on the first day, finished with a two-day total of 147. Joey Collins from McDonough, Georgia tied with Matthew Song of Waxhaw, North Carolina for third. Collins posted a 74 on Saturday and a 74 on Sunday and Song shot a 75 and 73. The players had a great time competing against some of the best junior golfers in the country, and most golfers were able to improve on the second day.
Will Stakel was the champion of the boys 14-15 division. Stakel posted an impressive 68 on Saturday and a 72 on Sunday for a 140 two-day total to claim the title. Liam Shinn of Norcross, Georgia and Jackson Buchanan tied for second finishing with two day totals of 145. Just like the Boys 16-18 division, many players improved in the second day, posting many scores around par.
Lucas Jinglov from Marietta, Georgia is the Boys 11-13 champion. After an 76 Saturday, Jinglov closed the final round with a 75 to secure the victory with a two-day total of 151. Andrew Kim of Alpharetta, Georgia came in second with a total of 154 (76-78). Southpaw Aidan Cohl was peppering flag sticks on both days with a 159 (79-79) who tied with Renato Gerena Jr who also had a good two days of golf at 158 (82-76). The boys showed maturity in dealing with the course’s many challenges.
Thienna Huynh of Lilburn, Georgia is the Girls 14-18 champion. Huynh posted a 79 Saturday and followed that with an impressive 72 on Sunday for a two-day total of 149. Finishing in second was Kelly Strickland from Alpharetta Georgia posted rounds of 75 and 74 to score a total of 151. Michelle Cao of Duluth, Georgia finished just short of first and finish second place with a two-day total of 152 (72-80). Ahra Suk Ko of Matthews, North Carolina finished third with a total of 155 (79-76). The ladies enjoyed their experience and the intense competition all weekend.
