Birmingham Junior Challenge at Oxmoor Valley - Valley Course

On Thursday, September 7, 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Birmingham, AL to host the Birmingham Junior Challenge at the beautiful Oxmoor Valley. The players battled through a windy weekend in Birmingham, but the wind wasn’t too strong to keep us all from having some fun! The HJGT would like to thank the amazing staff of the Oxmoor Valley Golf Course for their hospitality and ensuring excellent conditions for the field of play.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Birmingham Junior Challenge at Oxmoor Valley - Valley Course

Carter Goodwin of Birmingham, AL is the Boys 16-18 champion. Goodwin solidified the victory in his division by carding a 74 on Saturday and a 78 on Sunday for a two-day total of 152. Will Cantrell of Atlanta, GA finished in 2nd with a two-day total of 168 (83-85).  3rd place was tied between Connor Utley (87-83) and Patrick Minor (88-82) at 170. The players had a great time competing against some of the best junior golfers in the country.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Birmingham Junior Challenge at Oxmoor Valley - Valley Course

Drew Wilson of Potts Camp, MS  is the Boys 14-15 champion. After an 83 on Saturday, Wilson scored Sunday with an 86 to secure the victory finishing with a two-day total of 169. Pierce Garland came in 2nd with a two-day total of 172 (83-89). Palmer Kahren finished in 3rd place with a two-day total of 175 (92-83). The boys were very close throughout, which made the competition even more exciting.

Ernie Els 11-13

Birmingham Junior Challenge at Oxmoor Valley - Valley Course

Jake Dalton of Gillsville, GA is the champion of the Boys 11-13 division. Dalton posted a round of 93 Saturday and 94 Sunday for a two-day total of 187. This was Jake’s first tournament with HJGT and he enjoyed his time with Graden Lomax.

Birmingham Junior Challenge at Oxmoor Valley - Valley Course

Carson McKie is the Girls 14-18 champion. McKie of Hoover, AL emerged victorious after posting a two-day total of 151 (74-77). Sarah Utley came in 2nd with a total of 164 (82-82).  In 3rd was Bela Mead with a first round score of 93 and 85 on Sunday with a total of 178.

Justin Rose Girls U13

Birmingham Junior Challenge at Oxmoor Valley - Valley Course

Elle Webber  took home the 1st place trophy for the 13U. Webber ended Saturday with a score of 97. She achieved a Sunday score of 95 to finish with a total of 192. Alley Beth Waldrop finished with a two-day total of 194 (102-92) to come in 2nd place. Coming in 3rd in the Girls U13 division was Bella Warwick who finished with a total of 199 (95-104).

Boys 10 Under

Birmingham Junior Challenge at Oxmoor Valley - Valley Course

Graden Lomax of Odessa, FL  is the Boys 10U champion. Lomax had an 89 on Saturday, and followed that with an 80 on Sunday for a two-day total of 169. Graden was paired amongst Jake Dalton of the Boys 11-13 division and the two were matched very well.

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
