On Monday, July 2 – Tuesday, July 3, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Athens Junior Open in Statham, Georgia. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament held on The Georgia Club – Red/Black consisted of players from five of our divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

Athens Junior Open

Preston DeSantis of Johns Creek, Georgia captured the victory in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division after completing the two-day tournament at -5. He made 7 birdies and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average at 69.5. There was a tie for second-place between Keith Watkins and Jarod Edwards, both of McDonough, Georgia, as they each made 147 strokes for a +3 finish.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

Athens Junior Open

In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, it was James Baker of Johns Creek who finished the thirty-six holes at +3 to become the champion. He made 5 birdies and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average of 73.5. As for second place, there was a tie between Kevin Park (Johns Creek, GA) and Mason Dean (Duluth, GA) who both shot 153 strokes for a +9 finish through the two days.

Ernie Els 11-13

Athens Junior Open

Chapman Barnett of Duluth, Georgia won the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division after shooting 138 strokes to complete the thirty-six holes at -6. He made 5 birdies and led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (69), the lowest Par 3 average (2.8), and the longest birdie or better streak (3). Second-place finisher was Will Baker of Statham, Georgia who made 149 strokes to finish at +5. Nicholas Schwendiman of Suwanee, Georgia placed third after he made 154 strokes and ended the two-days at +10.

It was Chatsworth, Georgia’s Tori Owens who walked away with the victory in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division after finishing the thirty-six holes at +4. She made 3 birdies and led her playing field with the lowest scoring average at 74. There was a three-way tie for second-place between Peyton Schaffer (Lexington, KY), Kaitlynn Washburn (Scituate, MA) and Madison Harwell (Evans, GA) as they all made 152 strokes for a +8 finish.

Justin Rose Girls U13

Athens Junior Open

In the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division, Kylee Lynn of Opelika, Alabama captured the title after finishing the two-day tournament at +12. She led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (78) and the lowest Par 3 average (2.8). Second-place finisher was Ella Manley of Calhoun, Georgia who shot 158 strokes for a +14 finish. Both Lynn and Manley made 2 birdies and had the longest birdie or better streak, each at 2.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
