From Monday July 1st through Tuesday July 2nd, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Athens Junior Open. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Bryson DeChambeau Division Boys 10 and Under and the Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18.
Sam Brummett of Newnan, GA took the first-round lead after scoring a 75 on Monday. Brummett remained at the top of the leaderboard all week, with a final round of 72 and winning by a margin of 6 strokes. Hunter Smith of Statham, GA finished in second place with rounds of 79 and 74 over the week for runner up honors. And rounding up our top-three was Jack Stafford of Crandall, GA with a total of 154 strokes.
Jace Butcher of Wake Forest, NC was able to seal his victory with rounds of 77 and 72 over the weekend, making 2birdies the last day to finish at a two-day total of 149 strokes. Sho Suzuki of Bradenton, FL claimed runner-up honors with a total of 154, just 5 shots shy of the winner for the division. Rounding up the top three was Jeb McDonald of Cartersville, GA with a total of 156 strokes.
Peter Sposato of Bishop, GA was able to seal his victory with a final round of 79 and a week total of 161 strokes. Sposato made 2 birdies the last day to win by a two-shot victory over his closest competitor. Josh Durthaler of Dunwoody, GA shot a total of 163 shots and claimed runner-up honors. Rounding up our top-three was William Easterlin of Americus, GA with a week total of 167 strokes and claim solo third-place honors.
Kady Foshaug of Roswell, GA claimed first-place honors with a total of 149 shots. Foshaug was able to seal her victory with rounds of 73 and 76 to win by a four-shot margin. Meredith Bennett of Athens, GA shot a total of 153 shots to claim solo runner-up honors. Rounding up the top three was Jiwoo Shin of Seoul, Korea with a week total of154 shots to claim third-place honors.
Boys 10 Under
Cooper Smith of Jasper, GA was our lone competitor for the division with a total of 154 shots. Smith shot rounds of 78 and 76 over the week to claim victory on Sunday.
