From March 11-12, 2023, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Arizona Spring Break Junior Open. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of four divisions that included the Boys 16-18 Division, Boys 11-13 Division, Girls 14-18 Division, and Girls Under 13 Division.
Blake Steensland from Edina, MN was the first-place finisher this weekend. Steensland brought in scores of 74 and 69 for a combined total of 143 for the weekend. Matthew Ahlgrim from Farmington, NM was the runner up for the weekend with scores of 77 and 66 for a combined total of 143. Steensland defeated Ahlgrim in a playoff. Quinn Earwood from Platte City, MO and Thomas Meader from Lake Elmo, MN tied to finish out the top three honors. Earwood’s scores of 73 and 77 and Meader’s scors of 77 and 73 combined to tie for a weekend total of 150.
Apollo Lynch from Scottsdale, AZ was the first-place finisher this weekend. Lynch brought in scores of 79 and 74 for a combined total of 153 for the weekend. Ryder Haskins from Minnetrista, MN and Sam Meltzer from Paradise Valley, AZ tied for runner up this weekend. Haskins and Meltzer both had scores of 76 and 79 to tie and finish the weekend with a score of 155. Carter Brace from Lakewood, CO finished out the top three honors with scores of 79 and 78 to finish the weekend with a total score of 157.
Anne Yost from Farmington, NM was the first-place finisher this weekend. Yost brought in scores of 74 and 77 for a combined total of 151 for the weekend. Flora (Zhen) Tao from Chandler, AZ was the runner up for the weekend with scores of 75 and 77 for a combined total of 152. Makenna Cox from Scottsdale, AZ finished the top three honors with scores of 80 and 79 for a weekend total of 159.
Jaycelynn Hermsen from Queen Creek, AZ was the first-place finisher this weekend. Hermsen brought in scores of 100 and 97 for a combined total of 197 for the weekend.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 8-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. The tour’s vision is to provide superb hospitality and make every event a memorable one. With play open to both males and females, nearly every junior golfer is eligible to participate on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Currently the HJGT is the largest multi-day junior golf tour in the United States hosting more 2-day nationally ranked events than any other tour. The HJGT has been able to achieve this goal by running the most professional events and providing an exceptional value to all of our players and families over the last 14 years.
Based out of Orlando, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the country. In 2021, the HJGT will conduct events in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Canada. Juniors will compete in 1 of 6 divisions which are: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys under 10, Girls 14-18, and Girls Under 13. Click here to view approximate yardages for each division.
