From Saturday June 1stthrough Monday June 3rd, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Junior Open at Celebration Golf Club, FL. The tournament was made up of a 54-hole format with a field of five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Division Girls 13 and Under.
Tiger Woods Boys 16-18
Gabriel Restrepo of Caracas, Venezuela claimed first-place honors after making par on the first play-off hole against Tiago Barni of Windermere, FL. Both stellar players had rounds of even-par 72 on Monday to finish tied for the lead at 220 strokes. Restrepo bogeyed his last hole on Monday and Barni made a birdie to force a playoff. Restrepo came back and was able to seal his victory by winning the playoff. Rounding up the top-three for the division was Jonathan Greco of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL with a great performance all weekend and a final three-day total of 230 strokes to claim solo third-place honors.
Will Smith Boys 14-15
Jon Wang of Melbourne, FL shot a three-day total of 223 to take the lead on Monday with a final round of 74. Wang birdied holes 4, 5 and 17 in order to claim victory. Wang won by a margin of five strokes over Ben Walker of Winter Park, FL. Walker shot rounds of 73 and 75 the first two days to stay close to the lead and claim solo runner-up honors. Rounding up the top-three for the division was Sebastian Mascia of Valencia, Venezuela with a stellar final round of 74 to finish with a total of 231 strokes for the week and claim third-place honors.
Ernie Els 11-13
Ethan Coffield of Hamilton, GA led the Ernie Els Boys Division with a 250 strokes three-round total and a 78 the second day to gain momentum for Monday and seal a victory. Our lone competitor birdied holes 6 and 18 on Monday to finish off his great week.
Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18
Yue Zhang of Orlando, FL shot a stellar three-day total of 215 to take home first-place honors with an eighteen-shot margin over her closest competitor. Zhang shot impressive rounds of 71 the first and last days to seal her victory in the division with birdied on holes 2, 4, 5 ,6 and 12 on Sunday. Following her was Alex Crafton with a three-day total of 233 strokes and a great first round of 75. Rounding up the top-three, Celeste Valinho of Jacksonville, FL and Kaitlin Chao from Orlando, FL tied for third-place with 235 strokes.
Justin Rose Girls U13
Elan Zhang of Orlando, FL shot an outstanding 71 one-under the last day to win with a three-day total of 234. With an impressive 10 shot margin, Zhang was able to seal the victory and take home first-place honors. Following her was Arianna Leon of Davenport, FL with a three-day total of 244 with a birdie on hole 15 on Monday to claim solo runner-up honors. Rounding up the top-three was Camryn Coffield of Hamilton, GA with a 247 three-day total and birdies on holes 4 and 14 the last day.
