On Saturday May 26 – Monday, May 28, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Junior Open at Greystone in Dickson, Tennessee. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played by a field of players from five divisions that included the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, and the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division.
In the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Jonathan Xoinis of Chattanooga, Tennessee, was victorious with his first-place finish at -5. His 9 birdies and lowest scoring average of 70.3 helped him break even in round two and three. The battle for second place was a tough one and ended in a three-way tie. Ty Crouch of Dickson, Tennessee, John Buchanan of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Morgan Robinson of Tennessee Ridge, Tennessee all placed second finishing at +13. Crouch also tied with first place finisher, Xoinis, for the most birdies (9).
It was a successful weekend for three Nashville, Tennessee native in the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division. Clark Akers took home the first-place trophy with a three-day total of 239. He led the player field with the lowest scoring average (79.7) and the most birdies (8). Second-place finisher, Hagen Tyrone finished the weekend with a total of 243. Max Hastings finished third with 5 birdies to help him shoot a total of 245.
In the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Tommy Frist of Nashville, Tennessee took home the victory with a total of 189. He made 7 birdies and led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (76.5). Frist shot his best in round 3 (75) which helped him keep the lead, finishing 7 strokes below second place finishers Jack Taylor of Nashville, Tennessee and Max Kearns of Newtown, Ohio, who tied at 196 (+16).
Hannah Holland of Sale Creek, Tennessee won the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division with a three-day total of 191. She led the field with the lowest scoring average (76) and most birdies (5). Second place finisher, Sadie Pan of Clarksville, Tennessee, shot a total of 208. Lily Self, from Bristol, Tennessee finished third (210) after playing her best in round 3.
As for Girls U13, Karlie Campbell of Ethridge, Tennessee, took home the trophy just like her division ambassador Justin Rose. She finished the tournament with a total of 211 and had 3 birdies. This is Campbell’s first 1st place victory of the year.
