From Saturday, May 25th through Monday, May 27th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Junior Open at Crystal Springs Resort in Franklin, NJ. The tournament was made up of a 54-hole format with a field of six divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Bryson DeChambeau Division Boys 10 and Under, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Division Girls 13 and Under.
Tiger Woods Boys 16-18
Yida Wang of Potomac, MD took the first-round lead after scoring a 78 and remaining at the top of the leaderboard all weekend. Wang followed up his exceptional first-round score with rounds of 81 and 79 on Sunday and Monday respectively for a seventeen-shot victory over Douglas Shirakura of Somers NY. Shirakura finished in second place after shooting a three-round total of 255. And rounding up the top-three wa sDaniel Flickinger of Clarks Summit, PA with a three-day total of 257.
Will Smith Boys 14-15
John Keba of Emmaus, PA shot a three-day total of 247 to take an early lead on Saturday and remain in contention through Monday, winning with a four-stroke margin over his closest competitor. Closing out the week with a 79 on Monday, Keba was able to take home the hardware. Runner-up Barnes Blake of Westfield, NJ shot a three-day total of 251 to take solo second-place honors. Rounding up the top-three for the division was Zachary Locke from Horseheads, NY with a total of 255 for the week.
Ernie Els 11-13
Angad Manaise of Stamford, Ct led the Ernie Els Boys Division with a 245 three-round total to take an early lead with a first-round 81 and lead the rest of the week. Manaise closed out his three-day total with an outstanding 78 and 86 on Sunday and Monday respectively. Following his lead, Jack Chung of Greenwhich, CT improved his scoring each day to finish with a 265 three-round total and take runner-up honors. And finishing up the top-three was Austin Barret of Farmingville, NY with a total of 267 strokes for the week.
Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18
Amanda Phillips of New York, NY shot a stellar three-day total of 242 to take home first-place honors with a six-shot margin over her closest competitor. Phillips finished her week with a 77 on Monday to seal her victory. Following her was Olivia Patrow of East Stroudsburg, PA with a three-day total of 248. Rounding up the top-three, Nicole Criscone of Clifton Park, NY and Sarah Shao of Green Brook, NJ tied for third place with 257 totals.
Justin Rose Girls U13
Kennedy Swedick of Altamont, NY shot a stellar 72 the last day to win with a three-day total of 228. With an impressive margin of 36 shots, Swedick was able to seal the victory and take home first-place honors. Following her was Rayee B. Feng, of Short Hills, NJ with a three-day total of 264 and claim solo runner-up honors. Rounding up the top-three was Alina Ho from Great Falls, VA with a 277 three-day total.
Boys 10 Under
Nicky Jadav of Latham, NY lead the way in the Boys 10 and Under division with a total of 270 for the week. Shooting a stellar 83 the last day to finish at the top of the leader by a small one-shot margin and take home first place solo honors. Rayhao Feng of Short Hills, NJ finished close to the lead with a 271 total for runner-up honors. And rounding up the top-three was Leon Bui of New York, NY with a three-day total of 276 for the week.
