On Saturday, May 26 – Monday, May 28, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the 54 Hole Junior Open at Crystal Springs in Franklin, New Jersey. The Memorial Day Weekend tournament was three days and had players from all six divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.
Sean Vowells of Chatham, New Jersey captured the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division with a three-day total of 238. He led the player field with the lowest scoring average (79.3) and the most birdies (7). He was able to take the lead in the final round after tying second place finisher, Shawn Blandine, in each of the first two rounds (81). Blandine, of Ringwood, New Jersey, shot 79 in the final round to total his strokes to 241. Third place finisher, Dingze Liu, of North Bergen, New Jersey, totaled 246 on the weekend.
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Tyler Zimmer of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, took home the victory after shooting a three-day total of 246. He had the lowest scoring average (82) and had 2 birdies. Second place finisher, Michael Foley of Sparta, New Jersey, had the most birdies (3) and shot 251 for the weekend. Tyler Zere of Ronkonkoma, New York finished third after shooting 275.
The first and second place finishers in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division shot within 1 stroke of each other. Isaiah Marseille of Linden, New Jersey won after finishing +30. His 4 birdies and low scoring average of 82 helped him pull off the victory above second place finisher, Barnes Blake (+31), of Westfield, New Jersey. Despite Hunter Po’s, of Bridgewater, New Jersey, round 1 finish of 80, he finished the tournament with a total of 252 strokes.
Isabella Diaz of Ballston Spa, New York won the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division shooting a total of 243. She had the lowest scoring average (81) and shot the most birdies (6). Second place finisher, Olivia Patrow of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, shot a three-day total of 264. Lilly Moreau of Wethersfield, New Jersey, placed third with a total of 305.
The Justin Rose Girls U13 Division came down to the wire with the top 2 placing within 1 stroke of each other and second and third place finishing within 2 strokes. Kennedy Swedick of Altamont, New York took home the victory after shooting a total of 251 (+35). She had the lowest scoring average of 83.7. New York City’s Sophia Li finished second with a total of 252 (+36) and had the most birdies (4) in her player field. Eleanor Parkerson of Boston, Massachusetts finished third after a three-day total of 254 (+38).
Boys 10 Under
The Boys U10 Division was won by Mihir, Roperia, from Cranbury, New Jersey, who shot a three-day total of 240. He led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (80) and most birdies (4). Kevin Zheng of Warren, New Jersey finished second, shooting a three-day total of 277.
