On Saturday, May 26 – Monday, May 28, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the 54 Hole Junior Open at Colonial in Thomasville, North Carolina. The three-day tournament that took place over Memorial Day Weekend had a player field consisting of five divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, and the Justin Rose Girls U13 Division.
Tiger Woods Boys 16-18
Rico Rudolf of Klagenfurt, Austria won the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division with a three-day total of 225. He tied for the lowest scoring average (75) and made the most birdies (7). He was able to take the lead in round three after shooting 73, finishing two strokes below second place finishers Angel Guerra of Maturin, Venezuela and Santiago Sanchez of Mexico City, Mexico, who tied at 227 (+14).
Will Smith Boys 14-15
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Keegan Brown of Tega Cay, South Carolina took home the victory with a three-day total of 250 (+37). He had the lowest scoring average (83.3) in his field and made one birdie. His performance in the first round helped Brown win as he and second place finisher, Mauricio Miranda of Chihuahua, Mexico, both shot 80 and 88 in rounds two and three. Miranda had two birdies and finished with a total of 253 (+40). Drew Coppin of Denver, North Carolina had the most birdies (3) finished third with a total of 260.
Ernie Els 11-13
1st place, Peter Nusbaum of Pittsboro, North Carolina led the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division over the course of the entire three days to finish with a total of 230. He had the lowest scoring average (76.7) in his field, the most birdies (7), and the longest birdie or better streak (3). Jose Fernandez Jr. from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, finished second with a total with 257. Third place finisher, Chase McLaughlin of Kernersville, North Carolina, made two birdies and shot a total of 265.
Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18
In the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, Julia McLaughlin of Princeton, New Jersey clinched the victory with a three-day total of 220. She had the lowest scoring average (73.3) and made the most birdies (6). Susana Olivraes of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, made 5 birdies to help her finish second with a total of 227. Third place finisher, Hannah Foster from Hobe Sound, Florida finished with a total of 245.
Justin Rose Girls U13
As for Girls U13, Kirstyn Page, of King, NC, took home the trophy just like her division ambassador Justin Rose. She had a low scoring average of 86.7 and made 2 birdies. This is Kirstyn’s first 1st place finish of the year, following her 6th place finish a few months ago.
