On Saturday, June 2 – Monday, June 4, 2018, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the 54 Hole Junior Open at Celebration in Celebration, Florida. The three-day tournament that took place had a player field consisting of five divisions including divisions including the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division, and the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division.
Mariano Ayora of Windermere, Florida captured the title in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division with a stroke total of 213 (-3). He led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (71) and broke even in the first two rounds. Johnny Bai of Lake Mary, Florida finished second at one under par (-1) and tied Ayora for the most birdies, both with 9. Third-place finisher was Cade Black from Jacksonville, Florida who finished the three-day tournament at +9 (225).
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, first-place finisher, Kyo Morishita of Hyougo, Japan finished first with a total of 211 strokes (-5). His big victory came from his successes on the course as he broke even every round, had the lowest scoring average (70.3) in the playing field, and made 7 birdies. Second-place finisher was Shoichiro Sakamoto from Bradenton, Florida who shot a total of 222 strokes (+6) and made 7 birdies. Shawn Lalmoni of Orlando, Florida finished third with a three-day total of 226 strokes (+10).
Justin Bai (+1) of Lake Mary, Florida took home the win in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division after he played his three-day best in the final round by shooting four under par (-4). He led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (72.3), the longest birdie or better streak (2), and the most birdies (13). As for second-place, it was a tie between Sebastian Navarro of Caracas, Florida and Hanru Guo of Orlando, Florida. Both shot a total of 226 strokes in the 54-hole tournament.
In the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division, Deborah Chang of Seoul, South Korea, captured the title with a three-day total of 218 strokes (+2). She broke even in the first and final rounds and led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (72.7) and the most birdies (9). Tianyi Zhuang from Windermere, Florida finished second with 224 total strokes (+8). Third-place finisher was Mary Kate Smith from Melbourne, Florida who finished +15 with 231 strokes.
Boys 10 Under
Winter Park, Florida’s Lawson Hovey was victorious in the Boys U10 Division with a three-day total of 238 strokes (+22). He led the playing field with the lowest scoring average (79.3) and made the most birdies (4). Second-place finisher, Santiago Navarro of Caracas, Florida, made three birdies to help him finish with 256 strokes (+40). Jeremiah Smith of Viera, Florida finished with a total of 284 strokes (+68) to place third.
