2nd Annual Summer World Championship

From Saturday August 3rd through Monday August 5th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the 2ndAnnual Summer World Championship. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of six divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Bryson DeChambeau boys 10 and Under, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18 and Justin Rose Girl 13 and Under division.

Tiger Woods Boys 16-18

2nd Annual Summer World Championship

Brian Park of The Republic of Korea was able to take home first place honors after a final round 71 and a seven under (-7) for the weekend. Park had a total of 209 strokes for the weekend to win by a two-shot margin over his closest competitor. Andrew Swanson of Bluffton, SC with Tiago Barni of Windermere, FL and Alex Whitehead of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL all shared runner-up honors after finishing with weekend totals of 211 strokes, five under (-5) to round up the division.

Will Smith Boys 14-15

2nd Annual Summer World Championship

Ziwen (Zephyr) Zhong of China was able to seal his victory with rounds of 75, 74 and 72, making 4 birdies on Monday to finish at a weekend total of 221 strokes. Owen Bright of Roanoke, VA claimed runner-up honors with a total of 224 shots for the weekend and a final round of 74. Rounding up the top three was Peter Nusbaum of Pittsboro, NC with a weekend total of 231 strokes for third place honors.

Ernie Els 11-13

2nd Annual Summer World Championship

Landen Howard  was able to seal his victory with a final round of 71 and a total of 141 strokes. Howard won in a playoff against his closest competitor, Erich Fortlage Arce of Paraguay. Both players had totals of 216 shots for the week, where Howard eventually became champion. Rounding up the top-three was Jiacheng Xu of Winter Garden, FL with a total of 217 for the week in order to take third-place honors.

Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18

2nd Annual Summer World Championship

Yue Zhang of Orlando, FL claimed first place honors after shooting rounds of 67, 67 and 66 to win by a an impressive margin over her closest competitor. Zhang shot a total of 200 strokes for the weekend, with an impressive sixteen under (-16) total. Zhang made 6 birdies and an eagle on Monday to win. Mackenzie Gallagher of Orlando, FL had a weekend total of 214 shots to claim solo runner-up honors, with rounds of 73, 71 and 70 to finish at a two under (-2) total for the week. Rounding up the top three was Qianhui Lin of Winter Garden, FL with a weekend total of 216 shots to claim third-place for the division.

Justin Rose Girls U13

2nd Annual Summer World Championship

Amelia Cobb of Jacksonville, FL  claimed first place honors after shooting rounds of 78, 74 and 74 for the week to win by a four-shot margin over her closest competitor. Cobbu had a weekend total of 226 strokes with 3 birdies the last day. Gabriella Albert of Delray Beach, FL had a total of 230 strokes to claim solo runner-up honors for the week, having a 71 the last day to finish with solo runner-up honors. Rounding up the top-three was Katherine Schaefer of Sw Ranches, FL with a total of 231 shots and claim third-place honors.

Boys 10 Under

2nd Annual Summer World Championship

Nicklaus Downing of Winter Garden, FL was able to seal his victory with a final round of 79 and a total of 242 strokes for the week. Downing had a birdie on 18 the last day to help him win by an impressive margin. Following him was Giancarlo Aguirre of Peru with a total of 251 strokes, finishing with an 82 on Monday to take runner-up honors. Rounding up the division was Jimmy Williams of Jackson, MO with a weekend total of 261 strokes to finish with solo third-place honors.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

In 2017, The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
