The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour headed north to Clemmons, North Carolina for the Winston-Salem Junior Shootout on November 9-10, hosted by the Tanglewood Golf Course. The junior golfers had to play in windy conditions, but saw a lot of sun throughout the final day. The National Junior Golf Scoreboard ranked this weekend’s tournament. Winners from all four divisions received an invite to the 2013 HJGT Tour Championship. Top finishers earned points towards All-HJGT teams, state teams, and Hurricane Cup.
In the Boys 15-18 Division, Charles Corner from Cayuga, Ontario defeated Will Dickson from Providence, Rhode Island by 5 strokes to win at the Tanglewood Golf Club. Dickson was only trailing Corner by 1 stroke going into the last 4 holes on Sunday, but Corner, who also won the EFX Birdie Challenge with 6 birdies, had 2 on the final 3 holes. He also had an eagle on Hole 15 on Saturday. Corner also led the division with a 4.0 scoring average on Par 4 holes. Dickson finished the tournament with 1 eagle, 4 birdies, and 24 pars. Kell Graham from Matthews, North Carolina rounded out the top three by shooting rounds of 78 and 74 to finish with a total of +8/152.
Alexis Whitney from Charlotte, North Carolina was able to save par on the 18th hole by chipping out of the bunker and putting her shot less than a foot from the hole to secure the victory at the Winston-Salem Jr. Shootout. Cameron Little from Charlotte, North Carolina was able to pull into a tie after Whitney double bogeyed on the 16th hole. Unfortunately, Little bogeyed on the 17th hole, which was the margin of victory for Whitney. Cameryn Smith from Shallotte, North Carolina rounds out the top three finishing 4 strokes behind Whitney. Smith was also the EFX Birdie Challenge winner.
The Boys 11-14 champion, Mason Elmore from Charlotte, North Carolina, had a dominating performance to win the Winston-Salem Jr. Shootout. Elmore won by 12 strokes over Lansdon Robbins from Davidson, North Carolina. Elmore led the division with a 4.2 scoring average on Par 4 holes and a 4.9 scoring average on Par 5 holes. Elmore had 3 birdies, which won the EFX Birdie Challenge along with Thomas Deal, and 26 pars throughout the tournament. Patten Williams from Davidson, NC finished in third place, one stroke behind Robbins, with rounds of 82 and 81.
Kat Floyd from Chapel Hill, North Carolina had the best scoring rounds both days at the Tanglewood Golf Club. Floyd shot an 87 on Saturday and an 85 on Sunday to win the Winston-Salem Jr. Shootout by 5 strokes over Keri Kenkel from Charlotte, NC. Floyd was our EFX Birdies Challenge winner by birdieing 3 consecutive holes (Holes 9-11) on Sunday to account for all 3 of her birdies this weekend. Floyd led the division with a 4.6 average on Par 4s, while Kenkel led Par 5s with a 5.8 average. There was a tie for 3rd place between Sophie Holland from Cornelius, NC and Faith Parker from Charlotte, who both shot a total of 187.
