The weekend of April 20-21 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour will travel to Anderson, SC to host the Upstate Junior Classic. The event will take place at the AAG Golf Group’s illustrious Cobb’s Glen Country Club. As with all South Carolina events there will be a lot at stake for the players in the field. South Carolina Junior Golf Association Heritage Points and Tarheel Youth Golf Association Points can both be earned. Hurricane Junior Golf Tour points will also be up for grabs. The HJGT points will go towards year-end honors such as state teams, All-HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup. Winners of the boy’s and girl’s 15-18 division will be rewarded with four performance stars for the AJGA as well as an automatic bid to the 2013 HJGT Tour Championship. The champion of the boy’s 11-14 division will receive an automatic bid to the 2013 Tour Championship as well as one AJGA performance star provided that there are 20 or more players in the division. The winners of the girl’s 11-14 divisions will also receive an automatic bid to the 2013 Tour Championship. The event will be a two day event consisting of 18-hole stroke play on both days. Saturday will be started off of a single tee at 10:00 am and Sunday will be a double tee which will begin at 8:00 am. Registration will be on Saturday preceding the round from 9:00 am- 1:00pm. There will be four age divisions in this tournament: boy’s 15-18, girl’s 15-18, boy’s 11-14, and girl’s 11-14. Top three finishers in all divisions will receive trophies, the player with the most birdies in each division will win a bracelet courtesy of EFX sports, and the player in each division with the most improved score from day-one to day-two will receive an entire set of Golf Pride grips. The awards ceremony will take place at approximately 2:30 pm on Sunday. The registration fee for members is $179 and for non-members is $199. Register online at www.hjgt.org. The course was designed by George Cobb in 1976. Cobb is also known for his work designing the Augusta National Par-3 course. Cobb’s Glen is known for its plush fairways that are not overly tight, but are a challenge nonetheless. The course also features very fast bentgrass greens that are large and surrounded with bunkers.
