Toledo Junior Shootout, Stone Ridge Golf Club
(April 22-23, 2017)
On April 22nd and 23rd 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour continued its’ spring season at the gorgeous Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio. The first round on Saturday was completed under fairly windy and cold conditions, while the second round on Sunday was met with loads of sunshine. The players all provided a great and competitive atmosphere for all of the spectators who came out to support them. The fantastic attitudes from the players made for an excellent tournament. The winners of all five of the age divisions will receive an invitation to the Tour Championship later on this year and the top ten finishers also received points towards the end of the year Hurricane Cup and HJGT teams. Boys 16-18 Division
In the Boys 16-18 division, Charlie Toman from Chardon, Ohio took home the first place trophy. His scores for the tournament were an impressive 77-71-148. Charlie had a very impressive tournament and finished the second round with a great score. Charlie registered the only score of the tournament that was under par by shooting a 71. However, there was no shortage of competition behind Toman as Ryan Fries from Sylvania, Ohio came in second place finishing just one stroke short of Charlie. Ryan's scores for the weekend were 77-72-149. Ryan was able to make the competition very interesting by shooting four strokes under par for the front nine on Sunday. On this front nine, Fries was able to score an impressive eagle on a tough par five on hole four. Coming just behind these two athletes was Brandon Bodis from Avon Lake, Ohio. scored 80-74-154. Brandon’s solid improvement in the second round of play vaulted him into the top three. Boys 14-15 Division
In the Boys 14-15 division, Alex Hadden from Eminence, Kentucky succeeded in a competitive boys division by bringing home the first place prize. Hadden registered scores of 77-75-152 for the tournament, and was able to show solid improvement by having two more birdies in the second round than in the first. While Hadden performed very well, there was no shortage of competition behind him as there was a tie for second place. Gaige Keane from Temperance, Michigan and Connor Stevens from Brookfield, Ohio were heavily in the mix all day and both came away with second place trophies. Gaige registered scores of 80-86-166, and was able to shoot for more pars on Sunday than on Saturday. Connor's two day total was 166 for the tournament, and he showed great consistency by shooting the same scores for the front and back nines for both days. Boys 11-13 Division
In the Boys 11-13 division, Lorenzo Pinili from Rochester Hills, Michigan came away with the first place trophy. Pinili put up scores of 89-72-161 for the tournament. In the final round, Pinili was able to finish strong by shooting even par for the round. By shooting for par, Lorenzo was able to show the highest improvement of scores by improving 17 strokes. Coming in second was Nicholas Piesen from Strongsville, Ohio. Piesen registered scores of 83-88-171. Nicholas was able to improve on his back nine score on Sunday by one stroke. Girls 14-18 Division
In the Girls 14-18 Division Jacinta Pikunas from Youngstown, Ohio was able to come away with the first place trophy. Jacinta shot impressive scores of 77-74-151. Jacinta got off to a strong start that put her in the lead group for the final round on Sunday, and she finished even stronger on Sunday by shooting just two strokes over par for the round. Coming in second place not far behind Jacinta was Katie Mina Lee from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Lee put up scores of 79-81-160 for the tournament. Katie was able to shoot for more birdies in the final round than in the first. Finishing close to Katie and coming in a tie for third place was Nicole Whatley from Northville, Michigan and Paighton Masterson from Avon Lake, Ohio. Whatley and Masterson both registered scores of 83-79-162, and they were both able to show steady improvement by shooting four strokes better in the final round. Girls 13U Division
In the Girls 13U division Kathryn Schaefer from Kalamazoo, Michigan was able to come away with the first place trophy. Schaefer shot a 97-90-187 for the tournament. She was able to show improvement by shooting seven strokes better in the final round than in the first. Coming in second place was Kirsty Mitchell from Ontario, Canada. Kirsty was able to perform well in very windy conditions on Saturday.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
